&lt;p&gt;I used the sharp tip of a drawing compass (thought I might puncture too far with a thinner needle)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;the bottom loudspeaker holes, eventually, will get filled with pocket lint, or dust, or whatever.  So, part of it is just cleaning them out.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Also tried on the earpiece.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Results :  earpiece 20-30% louder, speakerphone like 300% louder.  This saved me from buying a replacement phone!&lt;/p&gt;
