Erica Sadun, from TUAW, weighs in with rumors of an SDK delay, fears of a "sandbox", and tantalizing code hints at a second iPhone device and a "simulator":

<a href=""http://www.tuaw.com/2008/02/07/will-the-iphone-sdk-offer-a-built-in-simulator/"" target="_blank">http://www.tuaw.com/2008/02/07/will-the-iphone-sdk-offer-a-built-in-simulator/

When reverse engineering, it's sometimes hard to figure out exactly what you're looking at, and what it all means. For example, the iPhone's supported platforms include the following.

Platforms = (M68, N82, simulator);
Platforms = (N45);

We know what the M68 platform is. It's the iPhone. And we know what N45 is, the iPod touch. So what's the N82? Could it be another member of the iPhone family? Perhaps. It's hard to make that call without any more data -- so rather than worry about N82, let's consider the next entry: "simulator."

So let's join the bandwagon and assume it'll be an SDK event. Cool. Now the real question, the one that put an icy lump of fear and doubt into our hearts during the last Phone different podcast: what if it's just an announcement of an SDK for developers, that Apple won't let the apps on for another 6 months?

I would be much more worried about the API being very restrictive, and the apps therefore not really being "native". I can imagine Apple, who likes their look and feel very much, would not be too happy with Summerboard.
