Says Dieter, horned WMExperts hat firmly in place:
The real story between Windows Mobile and the iPhone platform is this: the iPhone has elegance while Windows Mobile has power, versatility, and openness. It’s that last one that’s clearly becoming a bigger factor in my mind as time goes on (as it is with the entire the entire WMExperts Team). Podcast downloading is the touchstone example of the moment, but there are plenty of others. I’ll get into it quite a bit more in the final review, but for now, sit back and watch my video first take.
Is he right? And if he is, do we want to live in a world so wrong? Go on over and tell him what you think!
Remember, each SPE site is giving away their signature smartphone and accessories, so it’s not just an iPhone 3G up for grabs! Every day you comment on Dieter’s video, or my thread in the TreoCentral Forum, you get two more chances to win a smartphone (and accessories!)

To celebrate the launch of our new iPhone Live! Podcast, the iPhone blog is revving up yet another contest! What is it and how does it work?
Every week, on both the iPhone Live! and Phone different Podcasts, we here at TiPb will each be choosing our favorite iPhone accessories (courtesy of the TiPb iPhone store!), and adding them to the prize pack.
How to Enter
Each week, we’ll give you new chance to enter. It might be joining us on a social network, sending us a tweet, replying to a forum thread, etc. Listen to our podcasts (or check out the show notes) to find out the entry method for that week. Do it.
At the end of the week, we’ll pick a qualifier from everyone who successfully entered that week. Each qualifier will receive a 15% off coupon for the iPhone blog store, and be entered in our grand prize drawing.
Enter as many weeks as you like (though only 1 entry will be counted each week!). When we have all our qualifiers, we’ll pull a name out at random and they’ll win our Grand Prize: The Ultimate iPhone Accessory Pack!
The Ultimate iPhone Accessory Pack winner will be revealed on iPhone Live! #3
We already told you about the UK banning Apple’s “just the internet” ad, and why they were wrong. Well, the BBC is reporting yet another Apple iPhone 3G television ad has just been yanked off the UK airwaves by the British government’s advertising standards watchdog group. Why? For exaggerating the iPhone 3G’s speed.
The advert boasted the new 3G model was “really fast” and showed it loading internet pages in under a second. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld complaints by 17 people who said the TV advert had misled them as to its speed.
Seriously? I would love to meet the 17 people who complained that the speed of the iPhone 3G did not match the above commercial. [Ed- ladies and gentlemen, Paul Thurrott!] I understand that the phone is nowhere near being that fast but do they not realize that is a 30 second advertisement displaying the top features of the iPhone 3G. Maybe I am crazy but I like to think I have the common sense to know the difference between a 30 advertisement and reality.
Well if you are like me, you’d want to get some insight from at least one of the 17 people who complained, then let me introduce you to a man named Roger Browning. It seems he did not have anything better to do with his time but to get “revenge” for having his own iPhone 3G stolen. Yes, you heard me correctly, “revenge”. Be sure to check out the link to read his story.
Sound off in the comments, we are curious to see what our readers have to say about this!
I know Dieter hearts 1Password and it’s probably the first thing I load up any time I install — or re-install — a Mac. They’ve got a great FREE iPhone app, but you really need the big desktop brother to get the full functionality, which includes Keychain password filling integrated right into any Mac browser, as well as wallet storage, and a personal favorite — super-strong pseudo-random password generation.
They had a great special on Halloween, but Thanksgiving? Frankly, they’re blowing us away. Anyone who currently has a 1Password license can GIVE away up to 3 FREE licenses to their friends! Those who haven’t got 1Password, or friends with 1Password to give them this awesome gift, can buy a license for 15% off, and still get in on the FREE give away!
Offer’s good until Sunday, November 30th, so if you want it, go grab it.
Street-View is probably the single most visually impressive feature in iPhone OS 2.2 — you can almost hear the next iPhone TV ad being revved up with it already! Problem is, it’s almost hidden away like an easter egg. If you’re still having trouble finding it, The iPhone Lens wants you to know you’re not alone. More than that, they’ve set up a handy how-to to get you up and viewing streets asap.
Since you can’t buy an iPhone 3G without signing up for an AT&T (or insert international carrier) contract, it kind of destroys the potential of giving an iPhone as a gift (cramming a whole kiosk into gift box would be killer!). So, what to do, what to do? TUAW says, Apple to the rescue!
Give someone an iPhone 3G Gift Card and when the lucky recipient comes in to redeem it, an Apple Retail Store Specialist will take care of every detail. The Specialist will get your recipient’s iPhone 3G up and calling, set up email, and help customize the Home screen, choose some great iPhone applications, personalize ringtones, and find favorite songs.
Does this make the iPhone 3G a more appealing gift possibility to anyone? Would opening an envelope and finding a shiny new iPhone 3G gift certificate, rather than an iPhone itself, be as glee worthy?
It’s not very often that you get to see Steve Wozniak in a interview. Well the iPhone Dev Team found this gem of an interview and posted it for all to see. Woz speaks up on Steve Jobs, Apple, hackers, and most importantly the iPhone! I’ll stop talking… watch the video if you have not done so already!
Just a reminder, folks, we kick off the next iPhone Live! tonight (Wednesday, Nov. 26) at 8pm EST/5pm PST. (We’ll actually start broadcasting a little earlier tonight, if we can, so you folks can share in the pre-show with us!)
Topic, of course, will be iPhone OS 2.2, and your questions! Leave them in the comments below, on Twitter @theiphoneblog, or chat live with us tonight!
(For those unable to attend, remember we’ll be recording the audio and adding it to the Phone Different Podcast feed, so never fear — we’ve got you covered!)
I loved Palm devices and used them as my “main brain” from the Palm V all the way to the Palm 680, before transitioning to the first iPhone. But here’s the thing, I don’t feel like I left Palm — I feel like they left me. Will the Palm Treo Pro be enough to lure me back?
Fair warning: About 1 minute of this preview is done “Zero Punctuation” style (without the salty language, of course!). Apologies to Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw and everyone at the Escapist for the poor (very poor!) parody, and to our readers… er… viewers, but it had to be done!
The forums have been on fire lately due to Apple dropping the 2.2 firmware recently. So with that in mind we are going to start off with a thread asking is the 2.2 Firmware a Success?. Personally I could not be happier with the stability that the latest firmware has brought!
Happycamping is in something of a dilemma, iPhone or Blackberry? Help her out won’t you? She currently has a HTC Fuze and sadly that is going back to the store. (Sorry Dieter!)
The iPhone Blog merged with the Phone different site in May of 2008. Both sites were founded on a premise that comes one from one of Apple's old slogans: Think different. The iPhone Blog: for people who dare to phone different.
