iPhone 4G Concept: iPhone the New Macbook?
Gizmodo has posted another concept image for the iPhone 4G, and honestly this one does not look too bad. Perhaps the edges are a bit squared but the Macbook look to it seems to be a good idea. This concept is pretty enticing with features like 32 GB of storage, titanium body, 3.2 megapixel camera, and messaging light. The messaging light alone should be enough for Crackberry Kevin to upgrade from his 3G!
So what do you readers think? Is this the direction you’d like to see Apple take with iPhone? Keep in mind this is just a concept and we here at TiPb did not name it the iPhone 4G. Sound off in the comments!
[Via Gizmodo, thanks to Gabe as well!]

If it has MMS and Cut and Paste I may just be tempted.
Where does the physical keyboard slide out though?
February 3rd, 2009 at 2:42 pm
i kinda like the messaging light, but thats about it. but the aluminum macbook style.. eww….
February 3rd, 2009 at 2:45 pm
another 500 bucks down the drain for an update that should have been delivered with the 3g. Milk us some more t-mobile please we haven’t seen enough of that …
February 3rd, 2009 at 2:45 pm
I like the Macbook look honestly. With rounded out edges it would be sweet…
As far as a physical keyboard – probably will not happen as long as Steve Jobs is around. Which I agree with.
February 3rd, 2009 at 2:58 pm
wait a second.. removable battery???
Fail.
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:11 pm
I tweeted this too appsap which is where I first saw this pic basically this is the ugliestttttt iPhone concept I ever seen!! And besides the scree Size I hope the next iphone looks nothing nothing nothing like this!!!!!! DISGUSTING!!
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:14 pm
I’ve been asking for the MacBook aluminum fishish since the first iPhone model. I’ve never understood their ultra-glossy approach. But it needs to remain curved in back, with no removable battery, and no mic on front. That front-facing camera lens will have to be cleaned after every phone call (unless a bluetooth is used).
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Why cant this be the 3g iphone design…?
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:16 pm
I like it!
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I actually really like it! But rounded edges and back would feel nice in the hands… but not rounded looks cooler.
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:25 pm
I doubt the next iphone “4G?” will look like this APPLE is stylish and i’m sorry but this is just tacky.
I want to see different colors!
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:29 pm
…for their macbook it looks sharp but seeing this in someones hand tacky
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:32 pm
I actually really like the general look, and the idea of aluminum. I’d probably even feel confident enough to go sans-case with it. But I agree that it should be rounded out a little bit like the clamshells of the new laptops.
Maybe I’m out of the loop, but what is the “Messaging Light”? Only light I see is what I assume is the indicator for the iSight/iChat camera. Although as I type this, I’m wondering if that is actually a flashing light like Blackberrys have or something?
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:40 pm
I definitely think Apple’s going to head down the unibody enclosure path with the new iPhone… and lose the annoying chrome ring I have to over-protect every day. But, whether or not it’ll mimic this MacBook-like construction is another question.
@Ana: Different colors aren’t tacky?
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Wouldn’t aluminum (unibody or not) have the same radio-interfering properties Apple switched to plastic for the iPhone 3G to avoid?
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:49 pm
@Rene, I never had a single signal issue with the original iPhone. Not a one. I’m sure they could come up with something to improve the antenna if needed.
February 3rd, 2009 at 3:56 pm
@Rene and Jeremy: Couldn’t it remain plastic but have the same finish style/color?
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:07 pm
@Steve: That would cause my brain to vomit confusion every time I felt it
@Jeremy: I think 3G antennas, especially crammed in there with BT and hopefully 802.11n are fussier. The whole internals is a black art, any little thing can make it go from great to horrible.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:18 pm
The next iPhone will not be 4G.
The 3G in iPhone 3G refers to the 3rd Generation cellular data transmission antenna in the iPhone. Even EDGE is considered 2.5G. 4th Generation technology will NOT be available in the US until 2012, at the earliest, but it is coming.
The next iPhone is much more likely to be called iPhone 3G but referred to as the 2nd generation or something. Just like all of Apples other products. Get the New MacBook Pro, or the New iPod. This time, get the New iPhone or the New iPhone 3G.
Why people don’t understand what 3G is in the year 2009 completely eludes me. It’s like not knowing the difference between GSM and CDMA and why an AT&T phone does not work with Verizon. Maybe my grandma doesn’t get it, but any tech blog editor should know better.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:22 pm
@Edward – for whatever reason Gizmodo named it 4G but if you read the specs it does indeed say it would be a 3G phone. Don’t know what else to tell you.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:25 pm
@Jeremy Sikora – I know the specs say 3G, lol. If they said 4G, this phone wouldn’t even work on the AT&T network!
Oh well, why people who read techcrunch, giz, and other tech blogs say iPhone 4G gets me, but this is still a nice artist rendition of a new iPhone based on MacBook styling.
My next biggest question then, is what happened to the iPhone 2G??? LOL.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:26 pm
Maybe Apple should call it the iPhone G3 3G!
That’ll blow a few minds.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:29 pm
I like it, truly. I love the aluminum and the clean lines. It drives me nuts cleaning off my shiny, slick, black Iphone with all those smudges. And I like the messaging light. I missed that when I switched from the Bold back to the Iphone.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:30 pm
@Edward – maybe Gizmodo meant it as a fourth generation iPhone… maybe hinting at a lower priced iPhone to hit around the same time…. ok… that’s stretching it. I give up.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:30 pm
iPhone pre. hahaha steal palms thunder
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Lol, i hope they steal more than the name, honestly i dont care so much for the name;)
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Also… if this design were to “truly” be consistent with the new MacBook design, it wouldn’t have the aluminum on front above the screen. The glossy front of the current iPhone would remain as is and be incased within the aluminum-like body… as with the MacBook screen. I maybe would’ve had aluminum at the bottom with the button… but I would’ve had the black glass go all the way to the top (and left and right edges) with barely a border like the MacBook.
The artist wasn’t “completely” thinking like Apple, in my opinion.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:45 pm
With those edges I can shave myself anywhere on the road – take that, Razr!
February 3rd, 2009 at 5:13 pm
@Edward
I know thats why i was like “4g?” didnt make sense.
@Steve
Since when are colors tacky? maybe for a boring person
. Of course it must be done correctly!
February 3rd, 2009 at 5:23 pm
@Ana: When I posted that, I was imagining those bright iPod nano colors… that in my opinion would make the iPhone appear very toy-like. But then I thought about other phones that have the more toned-down colors and how they looked pretty sleek. I don’t know which you meant… but I sure wouldn’t want iPod rainbow colors on a phone that everyone’s been criticizing as not being business-like. Apple made that mistake with the first iMacs (although many would argue that wasn’t a mistake the way they took off).
February 3rd, 2009 at 5:23 pm
4G? When did the iPhone 3 come out?
February 3rd, 2009 at 5:37 pm
okat stu is late to the party… hahahahaha
February 3rd, 2009 at 5:43 pm
here, i fixed it! http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww321/eon43/realnextiphone.jpg
February 3rd, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Personally, I don’t know why Apple is so obsessed with the glossy finish. I would rather see a matte black backing. Then Rene wouldn’t be confused when he picks it up, it could remain plastic, but the fingerprint and smudging problem would go away.
February 3rd, 2009 at 5:47 pm
Not a huge fan, but I could learn to like it, I guess. Aluminum during winter would want me to NOT grab that ice cube in my hand or put it to my face haha.
February 3rd, 2009 at 7:02 pm
@ Steve-
I was not referring to the metallic colors. I think the dark Cherry BB curve looks really cute & stylish so I would personally want one in that color and I know plenty of people who would want one in a different color other than black/silver/white. I personally don’t use mine for business so I can’t relate but if I did I would probably use a BB but thats just me
.
February 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Gross! That’s why the guy who mocked this image does NOT work for Apple – Thank God!
February 3rd, 2009 at 7:31 pm
No way! It’s too much resemblant of a Zune, minus two buttons! I would never like someone to mistake my iPhone for a zune
February 3rd, 2009 at 8:06 pm
… I very much doubt that apple will release a product with a battery flap… seems too primitive and uncool for Apple. I mean look at all the past and current Apple “i” products… none of them has a battery flap!
February 3rd, 2009 at 10:50 pm
If someone else would sell this like Verizon i would by a I-Phone in a Heartbeat. I have the curve now thought about a storm but still buggy. Im awaiting the day for Verizon to have the I-Phone.
February 3rd, 2009 at 11:34 pm
might jump to Toshiba with 12 mega pixel 840/480 screen res.
February 4th, 2009 at 12:15 am
I agree with the commenters that calling this the iPhone 4G is ridiculous. It’s neither the 4th-generation iPhone nor the 4th-generation data network. There is nothing “4G” about it, so let’s not call it that. How about we go back to “iPhone HD” or something else that at least has a chance of being accurate? Thanks.
February 4th, 2009 at 12:22 am
What’s so wrong with calling it iPhone 3.0 I don’t think that would be confusing.
February 4th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Another thing, I love the concept above. The squared style looks amazing
February 4th, 2009 at 1:11 am
I think the next one will be the Iphone pro, or 3G pro, since we will still be using the 3G antenna. As for the look of this new phone… i dont mind it, if it had the higher resolution screen like TIPB talks about IPHONE HD, a larger capacity, better Camera, and maybe a front facing camera i would be happy… i also REALLY wanna see MMS… its beginning to get to me that i cant send friends and family pictures
February 4th, 2009 at 2:31 am
Yeah I agree iPhone pro is more logical. I could see apple continue to sale the 3g iPhone in 8gb and 16gb for $199 & $299. With the iPhone pro 32gb going for $349 or$ 399
February 4th, 2009 at 7:11 am
Looks great!
February 4th, 2009 at 8:21 am
Okay okay had to post a comment to make people a little JITTERY today. Now we can’t send MMS still or on this phone it dosen’t look like it is going to include it. NEXT will be Video Messageing. I mean my friends can send me VIDEO messageing but I don’t know where to begin. I guess I will just keep my 3G until I want to down grade back to verizon. They have free phones that picture and video message and while I enjoy that I will also enjoy when each Iphone user here says I can’t believe APPLE made me think that they cared about their customers.
I am starting to think you all bit the poison APPLE and are just feeling the effects of the poison. IME Apple needs to start careing for their customers so they don’t have to JAILBREAK their phones.
February 4th, 2009 at 10:12 am
Well I just have to say, that looks FREAKING AWESOME! Even what appear to little grips on the side, nice touch. Removable battery!? (Will Apple cave on this?) The status light would be cool, video recording cool, OLED SCREEN awesome, bettery camera cool.
Only problem, will AT&T let us upgrade at the discount price? Seriously doubt it.
February 4th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
I WANT ONE NOW!!!
February 4th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Edward O is partially correct, Apple will not be releasing an iphone 4G, it does relate to forth generation technology or wireless. Any ATT device with 4G will not work on ‘ATT’ until 2012 (at the earliest) when LTE is supposedly being launched. However, 4G technology is partly already available in the US and 110 different countries , from India and China to Chile and Argentina, it’s called Wimax. Sprint has Wimax Data cards (which have dual 3G/4G chips) up and running in selected areas, they plan on releasing a Wimax phone next year which will have multiple chips as well, voice and Data. Also, Sprint will have 3.5G (EVDO Rev-B & C) running by the end of this year. Besides, ATT is still stumbling with it’s 3G Network!
February 4th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
A little correction
Verizon and Sprint are at 3.5G, EVDO Rev-A is 3.5G 1.7 to 3.1Mbps. So Rev-B & C will be well above 3.1Mbps. The only Networks still operating at 3G in the US are ATT and Tmo.
February 4th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
You have got to be kidding me, what an eyesore. I would hope apple would focus their attention on refining the current model by adding the items they left out. It wouldn’t hurt if AT&T would tighten up it’s 3g either.
February 4th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
How to tell they wouldn’t use this design… speakers at the bottom only…. less i missed one at the top how’s this make sense?
February 9th, 2009 at 7:11 am
I like this design and functions it has, but honestly Apple won’t be bringing it out like this. I can’t say so much for the design on how Apple will actually bring it out, but it being Apple it will be nice. As for the functions, it will have MMS, 3.2 MP, and video. As for the rest, I really doubt it.
February 14th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
A 3.2mp camera would be so yesterday. A minimum 5mp camera with a live video feed would be more like it. Apple wouldn’t come out with a 4g iphone until the At&t contract expires in 2012, that way the iphone would be available through all the providers. Verizon would already be switched over to the 4g LTE.
February 14th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
hi. There. Wow. iPhone. With. 32. Gb. Of. Flash. Memory. I. Am. Getting. The. 17. Inch. MacBook.solid. State.
February 20th, 2009 at 1:25 am
Gotta haves for me to make the leap from my trusty robusty Treo 680:
*video camera *removable battery *cut & paste for darwin’s sake
Wanna haves:
*category folders for apps *GUI customization *QWERTY keypad (shut up) *unlocked GMS
February 24th, 2009 at 8:45 am
Its to ugly.
February 26th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
history repeats, now lots of people dont’ give a squat about the iphone, plenty of choises outthere, i now prefer Samsungs, Apple is doing the same thing it did with Mackintoch, Winodws won because how expensive the Mackintoch was, Windows took off with mass usage. Apples: stay in bed with ATT lonh enough for Samsung and others to beat the sh^t outta you, your short term greed will f&ck ya up, AGAIN
February 28th, 2009 at 11:28 am
i can’t wait the new iphone! Hope will look like this one: http://ivaylo.artician.com/portfolio/New-4th-generation-iPhone-concept/
March 3rd, 2009 at 6:19 pm
Sorry G007 that looks horrid – like some kind of dodgy 80’s video player…..if the aluminum was replaced by a strengthened carbon fibre body that’ll look sweet…..provided it doesn’t shatter if you drop it.
March 4th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Ok.
Pros: -Dual Way Camera, on front and back, (took them a while…glad they finally caught on). -Video, THANK YOU!!! (Took them a while for that too). -Messaging light. -Removable Battery, (multiple batteries for those of us who dont have time to be recharging all the time). -More memory capacity. -Standard Headphone jack, (like seriously, how annoying was it to keep having to shuffle between your iPod, and iPhone headphones.) -GPS (get with the times apple). -Titanium. Nice!!!
Cons: -Glass, (how many of us havent allready shattered our screens)?!? -Removable battery, (more second class fake batteries to damage your phone with, because apple is not very cheap, and the chinese are) -External Speakers…(so you can put external speakers on an iTouch but not the iPhone…come on). -Bluetooth!?! (I know you hate windows, and apple tries to be “different, but seriously). -Video (more amateur YouTube videos shot from an iPhone, which automatically makes it acceptable).

Ok we”ve all waited for this generation but what a nice feeling I felt when i red the new options in this iphone generation but when i looked at this iphone outerlook color i felt disappointed cant apple work on the innershape(options) and the outershape at the same time but not obvious since this bad-looking iphone bad color removable battery cover this is clearly what some one wont buy its a REMOTE-CONTROL for an A.C so i wont waste my money for this **** (PLEASE APPLE WORK ON ALL THE IPHONE TO BE THE BEST SMART PHONE EVER MADE—WISH U LUCK)
March 5th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
WISH U CHANGE FOR A BETTER IPHONE THAT EVERY BODY WOULD LIKE TO BUY AND IM THE FIRST
March 6th, 2009 at 6:56 am
i hope what u say is going to happen
March 15th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
i think 3g desing look better …
March 22nd, 2009 at 2:54 pm
I think its awsome!!! I love that design, its smooth and stylish! I wonder if it comes in black???
March 28th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
I am a proud apple customer, but if they pull this ugly stunt of a phone I will disown then.. the thing looks awful.. yuck.. the apple enterprise should stick with what works. phones are meant to look stylish and expensive not cheap and dull… I buy apple becuase they are good..
April 11th, 2009 at 10:19 am
Feel a little out of touch with all this tech talk, for me the current iPhone is absolutly amazing, yes there are a few things that we’d all like to see improved – battery life being the main one! But really this is probably the best thing I’ve ever bought (or not as it’s on contract
I like the idea of a higher resolution camera and one on the front for video calling etc, very good idea. As for the design, I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks the current iPhone is by far the best looking phone on the Market so far, such a unique **** look, apple have well and truely got their foot in the door with this patented design. A copy and paste function would be really useful but the biggest improvement in my mind would be the ability to install flash to enable us to watch embedded video on sites other than YouTube, also maybe slighlty louder speakers would be good… Anyways judging by apples skill so far I think we only have good things on the way
April 24th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
im happy with the current version 3g and would gladly accept improvements. i just wonder when this new phone comes out will current 3g customers beable to upgrade the software on the current version to the latest with all the features. As far as a bus phone: excellent
May 21st, 2009 at 7:36 pm
I think that it should have a cam in the front too and have the record video feature and support flash content and have a choice of 16 32 80 and 100gb and have different verieties of color choices for all of them like the nanos but with the same mac design with the titanium I love the design and I think it should be called iphone 3g-b(beta) since AT&T hasn’t steped up their game yet as far as I know hopefully 4g will be up and running in a couple of years or less wishfull thinking
LOL
May 21st, 2009 at 7:52 pm
I have another design idea also I see some ppl don’t like the mac design how about all those specs that you’ve mentioned with the 3g body design and I’m not sure how much power output those little solar things in calculators have but maybe you guys can build that into the body including the black parts of the face
June 4th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
So when will the iPhone 4G be out in the UK ? Thanks guys.
June 21st, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Cut & Paste, MMS, and more are all available with OS 3.0 for iPhone. You can download it at the following link: http://www.apple.com/iPhone/softwareupdate.html For iPhone, it is free. If you’d like the same update for your iPod Touch. Then you need to follow these requirements: 1.) This update DOES NOT include MMS but does include Cut, Copy & Paste, and Landscape mode for Mail, Contacts, and notes. 2.) You must have iTunes 8.0, 8.1, or 8.2 (all from Apple.com) and you must buy the update for $9.95 on the iTunes Store. 3.) This update is only for Ipod Touch 2G 4.) Be patient! This may take either 30 minutes or over 2 hours to download. All depending on your router speed. 5.) Once again, this is only available for: -iPhone (maybe) -iPhone 3G -iPhone 3G S -iPod Touch 2G
Thanks! Hope all of this helps!
August 11th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
I like the new look of the iPhone 4G!!! I would get it! When will it be coming out in the U.S.?
October 12th, 2009 at 6:40 am
woah! i can post stuff here to!?! thats so cool!
November 18th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
This fine is just so awsome I can’t wait until it comes out !!!
