Updated with Video! iPhone Prototype Revealed on Ebay!
Lookee what Mobile Crunch has found, two early prototype iPhones are up for grabs on Ebay! Both a working model and dud (non-working) models can be yours… if the price is right!
The seller seems to have done his research, too. Based on the serial numbers, the working protoype was built in week 49 of 2006 while the dud was pushed off the factory line the following week. The OS that’s running is 03.06.01G. Official iPhone OS that launched was 03.11.02G. Bidding ends on March 11th and the highest bid is currently $315.
Check out Mobile Crunch for lots more pics! (Early UI is awesomely interesting just by itself!)
Anyone bidding?

I call foul. That doesn’t look like anything Apple would have put out.

Interesting but no thanks. It’s of no real value IMO since it’s not a pre-release of a new iPhone to come. It’s a little late to the party if you ask me.

I will pay thousands for this! It will easily become something museums will be interested in one day. Please don’t bid against me.

Hmm, maybe fun for rich people? I dont see how the prototype had landscape txt, and the 3G doesnt.

Rats, when I saw the OS version had a 3 in it I thought it was somehow a prototype of iPhone OS 3…no such luck.

I’m just not sure what anyone wants with this. How long until Apple shuts this one down?

The reason why it “doesnt look like anything apple would put out” is because prototypes are generaly very crude version of what the phone will acctualy be. Why would they spend all the time in the world developing a beautiful GUI if you couldent even use it? Its a lot easier to program the OS in a simple dumbed down version like so to make sure its practical and would work before making it look pretty but perform like a POS

I’d buy this before I’d buy a BlackBerry.
