I’m another one who wouldn’t pay that much for an IM app. I’m more than happy with the free ones to be honest.

$15 is nothing for a great app. The iPhone is $199/$299. Service is $70+ a month. A movie is $12. A couple drinks that leave your system in an hour cost more.

Great software takes brains, time, and effort. It's how these developers support themselves, their families, their kinds, and their users (tech support is hugely expensive). It's how they pay their employees, their servers, and fund development of the next great app.

I don't want the iPhone to be the laughing stock of platforms, where next-to-free f@rt apps is all we get because it's what we've told devs is all we want.

If an IM client isn't worth anything to you, why not make a better one yourself and give it away for free? If you can't, don't, or won't, that's an incredibly powerful indicator of just how much that -- or any decent app -- is really worth.

I don't think a Ferrari is worth more than $5, maybe they'll give me one for free? That's my opinion, but how informed is my opinion, and if months of designing, testing, and engineering aren't worth $5, what's my opinion worth?

@Nathan, it’s normally $16 that’s why it’s in this post. It’s on sale. As for it not being worth the money that is your opinion and that’s great, you don’t have to purchase it. Fact is, right now BeejiveIM is the best IM client in the App Store. Plain and simple. You get what you pay for. Try looking at prices for Windows Mobile app, Blackberry apps, etc… iPhone apps are way more reasonable.

@Rene Sorry but it's not the same thing because the beejive devs are making a fortune, not $1 an hour. Let's face it this isn't photoshop were talking about it's an Im client.

How the hell is $10 an “app for less”? That’s one of the most expensive apps in the iTunes store! And that’s the sale price! Just to have an IM client? My Windows Mobile phone came with an IM and I downloaded a better one for free. And there’s no keyboard so what’s the point anyway? I just don’t get you iPhone people. I have an iPod Touch for the cool apps but there are so many that it’s just like why?
