Saying “it’s something to pay attention to but to keep it in perspective” is a responsible statement. Saying “it has a 98 percent survival rate” this early, is not.

Sounds like you’ve already made up your mind, though. I’ll continue listening to scientists and people who have more expertise on the subject than you or I, and see what happens.

This app is useful if it helps even one person in a thousand.

That was quoted from a CDC rep who was on record saying it’s something to pay attention to but to keep it in perspective. That wasn’t quoted from some bum on the Internet. The first person to die was a two year old girl, someone who would also be most at risk from a serious bout of the seasonal flu. They’ve been saying all along that there is little risk to healthy adults who listen to their bodies and seek medical attention when they become ill. So maybe I’m not the one who should pay better attention to what has been reported in the media.

Maybe it will blow over, we all hope it does. But the "36,000 people dying from flu each year" argument means absolutely nothing, and is beyond tiresome. Those deaths represent primarily the elderly and babies. This is different, and has not been seen in any of our bodies before. It is a danger to everyone of all ages regardless of whether or not it becomes widespread.

Before criticizing the media, at least pay attention to what they report, rather than listening to a bunch of idiots on Yahoo Buzz and other non-informed bums on the internet.

It has a 98 percent survival rate! Seasonal flu kills 36,000 people a year, swine flu has killed less than 5 people. Just like bird flu and SARS this is going to blow over and people who cancelled their lives for this will feel retarded once again.
