When Sprint Picks the Categories, Palm Pre Wins vs. iPhone!

To see the above image in all immenseness and glory, head on over to our sister site PreCentral.net. And yeah, AT&T did draw first blood a while back with their own internal comparison document, so we’re really more amused than amazed by this one, even if the categories chosen for the above comparison are a little on the weighted side. (If they’d chosen desktop syncing, massive integrated media service, 35,000+ current-gen apps, etc. things might have ended up a little differently…). Beyond the talking points, more details have also emerged:
We can also confirm that until you set up your Palm Profile, the Pre won’t work at all. You’ll also need to accept Google Mobile’s terms of service in order to get GPS services working properly. Multiple Exchange accounts are a go with full push support and the ability to search through Global Addresses on the server – but inviting attendees isn’t up yet.
Also, DocsToGo will be built in but read-only. Full version, with editing will be available to those on the “Now Network” at some time that is “later”…

Good for them…I’m not switching…
May 24th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
The hysterical part is the huge Sprint ad appearing directly below the above article. Heh.
May 24th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Umm yeah I think I’m going to stick with the guys on top apple, Rim and nokia.
May 24th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
The best thing about the iphone is no bloatware the pre comes with so many sprint apss yuck nascar on my phone?
May 24th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
OH NO! What to do without Nascar content!? haha I can live without it, and there is probable an App for that anyways haha Love my iPhone!
May 24th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
You guys, this is an internal document for Sprint Employees only. You should have seen AT&T’s internal comparison document! It was truly laughable. If we are really serious about a fair comparison, it is easy to see that Palm Pre wins.
May 24th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
How does Palm Pre win, it can’t even use the internet and make a phone call at the same time.
May 24th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
How does the Palm win? Its an upsliding PDA which are historically ******. Its UI is meh and it will not have an APP store that can compete with the iPhone 3G. Saying it will beat the iPhone is as stupid as those Storm fanboys claiming that the Storm was ginna bury the iPhone.
Right now its all hype until it is proven otherwise.

Sprint and Palm I must admitt are releasing the first smartphone to really match and in some ways surpass the iPhone’s capabilities. So to them Kudos…Finally an actual competitor.
But lets face it, Apple is always two steps ahead of the competition when it feels threatened…even the slightest bit. Remember when Zune first came out??? iPod touch came out and made it look ancient.
I’m waiting to see what the new iPhone will look like and what it will have before making any kind of decision here. Apple always has another trick up its sleeve.
May 25th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Oh the poor little 1Phone fanboys.
May 25th, 2009 at 1:06 am
exclusive nascar content?? really? lol.
Sprint really needs to drop the nascar partneship if they want to start rebuliding their image heh
May 25th, 2009 at 1:12 am
Pre would be a nice second choice if you couldnt get an iPhone
May 25th, 2009 at 1:15 am
also how are the other devices not “ready now”? lol ^_^
May 25th, 2009 at 1:26 am
Really the Pre is the one that isn’t “ready now” because it’s not “out yet”. I really can’t see this launch turning out well for Sprint or Palm. I see two scenarios… The first is that the launch itself is a flop because people at least want to see what WWDC has in store. The second is a big launch with huge crowds, most of whom do not get one due to limited supply. Before supply can be restocked, WWDC happens and the iPhone again pulls the Sprint user base further out from under them. I don’t see this turning out real well for them. I think the Pre is an “iPhone killer” until it comes out just like the Storm, which looked a lot better in the ads that in practice.
May 25th, 2009 at 2:01 am
At the one guy tha t keeps saying pre wins, you should define what you mean, cause it’s really about what your needs are. If were talking about numbers pre wont ever win. The average person wont want a pre if they see it sittin next to an iPhone, I mean just look at the thing. Then again if multitasking is THE thing you couldn’t live without go for the Pre.

pre < iPhone
enuff said
WAR sprint and palm dyin a quick death June 8th
May 25th, 2009 at 2:37 am
What a ugly and thick palm pre we got here.
May 25th, 2009 at 4:15 am
Pre took too long. It can’t go head to head with a new iPhone – which it now has to do!
May 25th, 2009 at 5:10 am
whats with the iphone having no integrated calendar :S its built in !
May 25th, 2009 at 6:23 am
so the iphones been out for 2 years, the pre hasnt been released yet. and somehow its ‘ready now’ when the iphone isn’t?
May 25th, 2009 at 7:25 am
relax people, its just a phone. what marketing department isn’t going to try and make their phone look better then the competition. competition is a good thing…
i didn’t know nascar users knew how to use phones though
May 25th, 2009 at 8:22 am
ahhahajjahhahahahha @ron
May 25th, 2009 at 8:47 am
How thick is the pre? I think the only people who want it have man purses. A slide out keyboard? Hahahaha. Where’s the innovation?
May 25th, 2009 at 9:20 am
HAHAHAHA… that is the list the everyone is going to look at to make their choice. Nothing else… but if they wanted to really make it the best they should have added the response time when you turn the phone horizontally in milliseconds … then it would have been the perfect list
May 25th, 2009 at 10:36 am
I wonder what palm will do for their next phone now that they have run out of things on the iphone to copy. And a plastic touchscreen? Cheap phone for palm the palm faithful
May 25th, 2009 at 11:29 am
Doesn’t the Pre only have 8gb for memory and no expandable slot? If so, lol… game over!
May 25th, 2009 at 11:30 am
@jeffdc5 You have to understand… they’re broke, lol. I’m surprised it wasn’t made out of recycled plastic.
May 25th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Uh since when does the iPhone not have an integrated calendar. My iPhone calendar seems to be integrated and works just fine
May 25th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
1) how many in the Technorati are NASCAR fans. I will agree that a few went to see Rickey Bobby in the theatres but I don’t think they want it on their handset.
2) The price. Good move to price it at a premium and give out a rebate. That gives the customers exactly $100 less to spend on accessories and apps out of the gate. Oh, but they’ll make that back with a lower rate plan.
3) Which makes more news the Pre launch or the lawsuit that they get on the same date for violating Apple’s multi touch patents? Jobs did say that they will vigerously protect thses patents and I expect them to move the first day that they are violated in the market.
4) Are these phone sales reps going to show people what an integrated calendar and contact is. If the folks here aren’t sure what are first time smatphone buyers going to think?
May 26th, 2009 at 7:17 am
I mean, I know there are a lot of racing fans, but I don’t think “Exclusive NASCAR content” is really a reason to buy a phone, and therefore, a poor marketing choice.
May 26th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
hey all you iphone ****..turn ur phone upside down…and try reading…OHHHH wait you cant, i forgot, one other thing that the pre surpasses you and the apple apps store is filled with **** idk about you guys but i can read and from what i take in there going to have Just as many apps for the pre BUT there actually going to be filtered to get ride of the garbage apps people keep writing for the iphone

May 26th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
p.s. try removing ur battery…
May 26th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
@ffeog: Why do I need to remove my battery since I never have to reboot it?
May 26th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
You guys are so amusing. Seems like the only goal of your life is to show how much you love a phone.
May 27th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
well maybe since the iphone’s battery cant last long enough to talk to 1 person…BIGest problem for there phone’s…
