2008 iPhone 3G Now Priced to Move! $99 Starting Today!
When Tim Cook said Apple wasn’t going to leave a price umbrella for the competition, did anyone really think he meant the (as of this writing still) current 2008 iPhone 3G would sell for $99 on contract?
Of course, exact pricing will vary by region/carrier and eligibility, contract-wise. Still, if a new customer can walk in AT&T, drop $99, and walk out with a still highly functional iPhone 3G with free upgrade to 3.0…
Hot.
Who knows how long it will last, so if that’s your magic number, go get it!

I cannot order the 3G or pre-order the 3GS from the Apple site. Site keeps freezing or not completing requests. Didnt they learn anything when they released the 3G?

On the AT&T Site…
The 16GB 3G is $149 and the 8GB 3G Refurb is $79.
The iPhone has now gotten cheap enough to get it for your kids to get (break)!

Cheap enough for kids except for the data plan.
Note that going forward the Apple site seems to suggest the 3G will only be available in Black.

@icebike: The 8GB 3G iPhone has always been available only in black. The 16GB 3G was the only 3G available in white.
New AT&T lineup:
8 GB (Black) $99 16 GB (Black or White) $199 32 GB (Black or White) $299

I know it is $100 but really if you are in the market for a new iPhone why would you spend $99 for the 3G that is already mostly obsolete when you could spend $199 to get the 3GS with twice the memory, faster processor, and a few better features? That amounts to only $4 a month for the life of the contract. Now if it was $99 for everything the 3GS has except for a smaller memory then I could understand (although I understand memory is probably the cheapest component). This seems like they are just using up their stock of 8GB models. Why would they bother continuing to make more of the 3G once they run out of stock, won’t the need for different assembly lines cost more than just making a 8GB 3GS?
