Hackers Hack Apple.com Online Store to Buy iPhone 3G S Sans AT&T Contract?

This was sent our way along with a tip saying almost a dozen people had successfully processed US apple.com iPhone 3G S orders using this hack to avoid AT&T’s online contract sign-up.
It doesn’t get you the subsidized $199/$299 price, nor an unlocked iPhone, of course, so don’t get too excited.
We have no idea if it actually works either — if orders placed this way will actually ship, or if AT&T goons in black will show up at your door for a little curb-stomping contract reminder. We obviously can’t condone it either, so we link to it strictly for educational and entertainment sake, knowing our readers are all responsible adults. Right?

Well, it’s an interesting find if it indeed works. I need some more proof before I believe it, though.

Can’t you buy an off-contract iPhone from AT&T. I was quoted $699 off-contract from my local AT&T store. I don’t understand the benefit from the Apple web page.

Couldn’t you just buy it with no contract and then SIM-swap with your older 3G?

The prices they quote in the post are the no-contract prices…I know because my father bought one for $699 (32GB) the regular way and a new contract will not come with the phone.
Congrats…you found something completely acceptable to Apple AND AT&T. LOL

After looking over the thread…the no-contract part is not the part this concerns you’d get that anyway. The important part of this is that it won’t force you to select a voice/data plan when signing up on Apple’s site. For those wanting to use a cheaper plan from another phone by sim-swapping this is invaluable.
