I tried them both and didn't like either. iPhone is nice but the plan stinks. PRE is ok but I hate that it has the slide out textpad. I will stick with the Instinct, just wish it had a larger screen. But the Sprint everything plan just kicks ATT out of the park.

Fuck the iPhone. I've been a user since day one and I'm glad that the Pre is here to kick Apple's ass into gear. They've been pellet feeding us features since the beginning and everybody continues to "oooh" and "ahhh". Maybe with a little competition, Apple will get off their ass.

Version 3.0? Are you kidding me. What did we get? Cut and Paste??? Big deal. Where's the voice dial? Oh wait? They did release that, but I gotta upgrade and extend my frickin contract for another two years. Turn by turn navigation? Sure, you can have that, but it's going to cost you ten bucks a month.

What I find interesting is that the fan boys are quick to defend their rock solid phone against the Palm menace. Seems to show a lack of confidence, in my opinion.

I have an iphone 3g and will be switching to the Pre. I just cannot stand the overall 'lagginess' of this phone. For me the lack of multitasking is a big no no. Don't get me wrong as a general entertainment device, it's hard to beat and some of the apps are just amazing. But I've owned it for about a year and other than a phone, I need it for web browsing, note taking, and email. Simple yes? But I need to be able to switch between those apps quickly and seamlessly, something it just cannot handle consistently. Now, coming to the end of the warranty, I'm having random lock ups and crashes where it turns off by itself. It never did this before. I have the latest firmware and have tried all the tricks on Apple's website.

I had the opportunity to play with a pre at a local Sprint store and while it will take a little getting used to, it seemed to handle the web quite well (put my 3g to shame) and with the latest updates, should have no issues connecting to our exchange server from what I read. I was able to launch about 6 apps and switch between them with little effort - exactly what I need. Plus the unlimited plan will come out to be cheaper for me. I know it's a first gen phone but I can live with that. I loved the iphone and still do for some things but honestly, the dazzling app-love and cool factor is wearing off. As my job gets more hectic and other options become more available, its shortcomings are becoming more apparent.

About the 3gs: yes it's faster, has a better camera and switches between apps more seamlessly just from it's raw power, but it's still not true multitasking anyhow you look at it. I was able to play with one at the apple store a few days after its release and was left with a positive overall impression compared to my 3g. But..... I'm not elegible for an upgrade for another 6 months (they want $399) and I got spoiled by my Pre experience. Yeah with a little convincing I can probably have my 3g replaced, but I think I'm all iphoned-out and have been left with a slightly bad taste from the overall experience. So bye bye iphone (although I might just hold on it as an extra device for music).

The iPhone and the Pre are both excellent choices. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either handset. In my opinion, it really comes down to the carrier at this point -- are you okay with paying an outrageous ATT bill each month or do you want to save a considerable amount of money with Sprint's everything plan? Personally, I would never consider ATT's outrageous pricing and will be enjoying my Pre until better options are available.

I am tired of the fanboys. Try the phone before you berate it. The iphone drops calls all the time. It just isn't that good.

Well the iphone cant really multi-task like the Pre and your dumb if you say it can. Dont lie to your self the Pre is better its just on Sprints network. And there are so many other phones that are better than the iphone such as TG01 and HTC Hero. And once the Zune HD comes out the ipod will fall behind. Oh and as far as you saying the iphone can do everything... only with added apps it cant do the basics on its own

@John

Just the beginning of your comment made me laugh.. the fact that you think you own your car, or own your home.. John we never truly own anything.. if you don't pay your taxes, you don't own your home anymore.. if you don't pay sticker costs on your car, you can't drive it anymore.. Point is, we go with the best device for us.. yes, it would be nice if Apple would allow more on the iphone, but they don't.. to me, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Well its all good that you folks think you own the IPHone, the sad thing is you do not. When I buy a car I can put and replace what I want, just like the 40 or 50 mobile devices I have with just about every app for every phone os on the market and I can tell you nobody will ever tell me what apps I will have on my devices. Why? Well, it's because I own that phone. As for phones I believe better than any Iphone (even the new one with Video, What? cool a 10 year old technology has come to your so savvy tech device) would be by HTC, Toshiba, Palm, and the Blackberry Bold. With all that said, the Iphone has brought a complicated device to the general non-tech savvy person making it virtually idiot proof, that should bring about greater and newer devices since now the general public can use one. (YEAHHHH)

@ ayoo: since when do they not? I look at the numbers too, the more people have one more costumers Apple will try to please and we will be getting great updates to get all these features everyone wants. If multitasking every app was such a big issue wouldnt everyone be with winmo and now the pre... But they are not, so go figure.
