you KNOW android doesn’t have gap less playback of music? I can only assume you haven’t actually used one … even the slower (sometimes painfully slow due to multitasking) G1 plays music perfectly in the background through hours of tracks while texting, using gmail or exchange, twitter, web browsing and any other app installed. Keep in mind this is all at the same time without any data loss, reloading of web pages or even having to close a single app.

To all those not liking the UI, try using android for a week. Here are some tips …

• it’s confusing: What you see on the screen are widgets, something no one else has. This means instant access to all app information and push data. They are meant for a quick glance, but if you need to actually search through a huge contact list, email list etc you simply switch to the real app and get the benefits open source offers.

• it will be slow: read what has been mentioned, snapdragon cpu. The G1 is only slightly slower than the iphone, although more reliable. Snapdragon is twice as fast and it will handle anything android can throw at it.

• cost: you’re probably right. I expect this to be subsidized to the tune of probably around 300, but certainly far more expensive than the iphone.

• benefit not mentioned here: sdcard. iPhone users pay another 100 to get another 8/16G of storage. Card storage offers huge flexibility up to a current 32gig for far less. This is not android specific of course, just a personal/professional reason for the iPhone being inadequate.

• apple will listen: really? I’ll hold back from how I feel about that given the response to Truth, but look at history … no they don’t and won’t. On the iPhone (even jailbroken to a certain extent) you get to do what Apple says, when Apple says, how Apple says. Thats called Jobs Law (read: original mac, NeXT, imac, etc).

• business use: Yes, google took a hit on this and made a bad call not using its ActiveSync license, but their intent in leaving it open source is to have other companies write better apps for certain functions. I use one called touchdown and it is FAR superior to the iphone.

• Games: in my opinion Apple currently has android nailed and knocked out. While there are some cool games for android, Apple clearly spent a lot more time focusing on this.

• Home page UI: Mr Jobs, I respectfully request that you take your “no catagory no folder random placement difficult to use flat and effectively useless” home page design and please find something creative and preferably very uncomfortable to do with it. It’s terrible.

• Multitasking: No detail really needed here. Apple pulled an epic fail on this one and has no intention of resolving the problem.

• Another unmentioned topic: the exclusive contract with AT&T is great for AT&T … and thats about where the compliments stop. Nothing more to say there, but my suggestion would be to find a hot spot … any hotspot to get off of AT&T’s 3G network. Starbucks is a nice place and iPhone’s get free access there now.

To all of the iPhone fans (read: NOT fanboy, i don’t mean that) I understand the reliance on the iphone, I really do. I had the first two generations and I enjoyed them, but at some point I need a phone that lets me work AND play and I want to do it seamlessly. iTunes is a good system for what it does, but not if you want more. I don’t like the DRM and I don’t want to pay extra to remove the DRM. I SURE don’t want to scrap all that music to go to android, but luckily I don’t use itunes (which brings up another point, the backup/restore function in iTunes … well done Apple, I do hope someone copies that idea and will make this easier on android). I don’t think anyone on either side of the fence is a fool or blind or lying, but I do think anyone who makes blanket statements without REALLY knowing how the system works is, well, unexperienced.

To the poster who said seamless Gmail integration: Have you been living under a rock. It’s Android. Google. Duh.

I love the design, UI, and power being packed into this (lets just hope it has the RAM to supplement it).

If this gets pushed out…it will truly be the first Android device that can compete graphically with the iPhone (beyond the Hero and Sense). And it will be the ONLY Android device to not only compete…but crush the iPhone in raw power and speed.

Please read post #27. While I don’t agree with calling Rene a “fool”, everything else in that post is accurate. I don’t agree that Truth is a “troll” because he is stating real shortcomings of the iPhone, even though we could all do without the name calling. A troll would be somebody who posts garbage like “Who cares, the iPhone sucks anyway, get a blackberry” etc.

With that said, I am getting tired of the beatings Rene takes on these comments sections sometimes. I think he’s doing a great job of reporting iPhone news and rumors w/ just enough bias.

Excellent, that’s all I want, for me the iPhone is a music player with enhancements, nothing more, and that’s what I bought it for.

I wanted a music player that did gapless playback, no other phone I’ve owned (and that’s a lot) has done that, even Nokia’s touted “Music Phone” the 5800, what a joke.

I believe the N97 doesn’t, and I know the Android OS doesn’t either.

It also has the added advantange of being a phone, calendar, games machine, GPS device, internet browser, etc.

They are additional extras to me, as long as it plays music and plays it well then that’s good enough for me. However “Compilations” grouping would be nice…

No the Iphone doesn’t meet my needs that is why I jailbroke it. I would never buy it if I couldn’t jailbreak.
