App Store One Year Later: 65,000 Apps, 100,000 Developers, 1.5 Billion Downloads
Apple announced today that the iTunes App Store, one year post-launch, has served up over 1.5 billion downloads of more than 65,000 apps created by over 100,000 registered developers.
Says Apple CEO, Steve Jobs:
“The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality. With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.”
Strange as it is to see Jobs mention “the competition” there’s no denying the App Store is run-away success beyond even Apple’s lofty expectations.
Congrats! And let’s hope the next year is even better!

Can anyone recommend a decent wireless printing app? I was hoping there would be one by now, but most in the app store require a download file to your desktop or can only print photos (HP’s app). Thanks.

Oh puh-lease. Tomorrow it will be 1.6 billion. Will you report that?

If the App Store moved 100 million apps in a single day, I’d certainly consider that newsworthy.

@Truth Math says: if they reported 1 billion, then 1.5 billion. They are most likely to announce 2 billion. I dunno, I’m just guessing.

There are only 5,000 apps tops in the App Store. Steve should seriously take a browse through the App Store and look at all the utter **** that his company is approving.

Me thinks the whining is the best testimonial. I LOVE it!!

@sting7k
it’s all apples fault. Their stupid sdk won’t allow developers to take full pontential of the device.

I agree with Truth! I want to be able to open my email attachments in iPullMyFartyFingerCrap™ app!

Clearly Apple store is ruling the roost in application arena… There is no one even near to it to compete.Nokia, RIM, Palm and Android all wanted to replicate App Store. Verizon is also toying with the idea by announcing its own APP store… But getting large number of developers and building the software is not bread and butter.. Catch App Store if you can!!

They acheived the next 500 million downloads pretty quickly!

My prediction is that RIM and Androids will do ok but the Windows Marketplace App store will be the only one that will ever truly have a chance at catching apples store, that’s cause they will offer it to all devices with WinMo 6.0 and up
also their new patent shows that their marketplace will be compatible with the Zune franchise which will open up the second biggest MP3 market to those apps
