SlingPlayer Mobile iPhone App Update Submitted to Apple

SlingPlayer Mobile

The much-discussed SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone application is once again back in the news again. The Boy Genius is reporting Sling Media has submitted a fairly significant SlingPlayer update to Apple. Version 1.1 will Include the following:

  • True 16×9 wide-screen support
  • Improved remote control interface
  • Faster speeds all around including channel changing, initial connection, and remote control response

Sling Media also let BGR know that a completely separate application has been submitted for outside of the USA that contains all of the above along with 3G support. Your guess is as good as ours as to whether or not Apple will let this update into the App Store. Without AT&T pulling Apple’s strings it is a possibility everyone outside of the good old USA will enjoy 3G Sling streaming.

So what do you think, will the 3G version make it through to any non-AT&T customers?

The updates should be nice, but slinging over 3G is brutally easy to do now. Just one more of the many reasons to jailbreak!!!

  2. sting7k Says:

We really have only ourselves to blame. iPhone users are data hogs!

I’m starting to reconsider doing this jailbreak. Anyone know a step by step site where I can get this info?

Who cares…. I use Orb Live instead…. no expensive equipment to buy and I keep my PC/Server running all the time anyways for RDP access. Just wish Orb was a bit more stable.

  5. Behshad Says:

Orb isnt too shabby , but the video quality sucks and as you said its not stable at all. I think this new update from Sling is to match the new release of teh Dish VIP922 which will be out next month.

Sting, we don’t have anyone to blame. AT&T promises unlimited data when they don’t really mean it. It seems as though you have bought into the idea that it’s ok for AT&T to fail on promises and keep all charges the same. To me, that’s not ok but I guess they have you on their side.

Woo!!! I have a jailbroken iPhone and therefore Slingmedia’s decision to provide 3G streaming to countries outside the US doesn’t particularly bother me as there are easy workarounds… however it’s so nice to see that companys are thinking about countries outside the US and therefore hopefully more apps blocked by AT&T (etc. Google Voice (maybe :P )) can find there way to the UK :)

I have been using the “3g unrestrictor” app. It is awesome. Slinging for over a month now!!!

  9. ben Says:

The bet reason to jailbreak is 3g unrestrictor – use slingplayer and skype, etc, over 3g.

With backgruonder app (also cydia) you can run skpe in the background (over 3g), so you need never miss a free call again.
