3.2 Megapixel Cameras Bound for iPod touch, iPod nano, and… iPod classic?

The iPod touch, iPod nano, and now it sounds like the hard-drive based iPod classic are all set to receive cameras, presumably at Apple’s September 9 music event. We’ve heard rumors of the iPod touch before, of course, and even the iPod nano, but the iPod classic as well?
That’s what Digitimes (via MacRumors) is reporting:
OmniVision will be the sole supplier of 3.2-megapixel CIS products for new iPod nano, iPod classic and iPod Touch models which will be launched in September, the sources indicated.
So, the take away — if these rumors pan out — is that those of you who want apps (touch), portability (nano) and now, massive storage capacity (classic) might all have uber-convenient picture snapping in your future.

Is it worth buying a macbook now and getting a free ipod touch or will there be another deal later?

August 27th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
But will they bring back the 160GB option?
August 27th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
that would be a smart idea. Would keep people interested in the other ipods. crazy to think that a few years ago 1000 songs seemed like a lot
then carry video with you anywhere
now a camera (and then next year they can come with video cameras)
its almost not like a mp3 player anymore
its turning into a camera that can play songs now haha

But let’s get video capability and a flash and maybe even optical zoom and it would be a must have device

No, No, Tom.
Regular old Still Camera this year, then sell you a new device Next year with Video.

They will have the iPod giveaway next summer as well in all likelihood. They’ve had it now for a few years. They do it to dump some stock of the previous iPod from the year before. For example, the iPod touch giveaway ends on sep 8 and the new ones are thought to be announced sep 9.

I’ve never seen a camera phone flash that did anything to add to a picture’s quality. They are handy as flashlights though.
moving parts = bigger device = Optical zoom.
I’d go for a wider aperture, better lens, and larger CCD instead. Overall, I’d have to say I very happy with the daytime picture quality.

Ech… I assumed the new iPod would do video. If it doesn’t then what’s the point…
August 27th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Yea I’m not certain that I’ll be buying one unless there is more than just a camera.

August 28th, 2009 at 8:40 am
They should make it so that all the iPods double as a phone…,and have Internet capability!
August 29th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Wow…just shut the hell up JJ, and please, when you feel the need to speak again; don’t.
August 30th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
All ipods have phone/web!!! are you stupid they have different ipods to appeal to the different segments of the market; putting intrernet and phone in them would destroy apples entire ipod/iphone business model. Moron!
August 30th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Mat, you’re an idiot. If you can’t clearly tell that JJ was kidding, you need to crawl into the nearest pothole and wait for a car to come smash your head into the pavement.

Actually. Being honest. If they are gonna sell the ipod touch with only a 3.2megapixel camera, its quite a Really BAD deal. Look at it now. $199 for a 8GB iPhone 3GS and $229 for a 8GB iPod Touch 2nd Gen. And thats a 3GS with video capabilities! I might as well get it instead man! If its just gonna get camera, no point right?
And if the 16GB is the replacement and they are gonna sell it at $229, i’ll rather spend $70 more for a phone with video capabilities and much more stuff like GPS than an ipod which only has the same processor speed, RAM and memory and a 3.2 Megapixels camera with no video capabilities.
That’s why, this year, there is an increase in the sales of iphones than ipods. I have a 8GB iPod touch 1st Gen and its time for me to replace it. Im thinking twice now.
But anyway, lets see the keynote on the 9th and see how it goes. If its gonna be only a 3.2megapixel camera with no video capabilites, im buying the 3GS instead.

they need to improve the camera on an iphone for sure..i mean a digital camera you buy seperatley, now, can be almost up to a 12 mp…if they want to sell, they need to get like and 8mp or higher because the cameras just dont impress me and they would sell billions of them if they were like a digital camera today and the best phone on the market…you cant go buy a 3mp camera and if you waste your money on one then that is your fault!

September 9th, 2009 at 3:05 pm

September 13th, 2009 at 12:26 am
