AT&T Announces MMS is Coming to iPhone on September 25th
Most AT&T iPhone owners have been waiting for any word from their beloved carrier regarding the activation of MMS and as it turns out, AT&T just notified us personally to make sure we pass on the good word that MMS will be available on the iPhone on September 25th.
The date is September 25th, which does indeed fall a few days past the official end of summer. It was important to give our customers a positive experience from day one. We support more iPhone customers than any other carrier in the world so we took the time necessary to make sure our network is ready to handle what we expect will be a record volume of MMS traffic. We truly appreciate our customers’ patience and hope they’ll understand our desire to get it right from the start.
The email went on to also make a point that this indeed will be a software update that iPhone owners will need to download via iTunes. Perhaps the release date for iPhone OS 3.1?
Anyone exited yet?
*Just to be clear, MMS will only be available on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. No MMS is offered for the original iPhone 2G.
Updated to include AT&T Network 101 & MMS Availability Update (thanks Gregg & sil3ntrid3r11!)

September 3rd, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Cool. Now we have a date. Finally hose who use MMS will be happy.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:35 pm
I mean those.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Are you still waiting for MMS in the US? I didn’t realise, you’re all so quiet about it!
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:36 pm
I am….. It’s sooner than later….. Early Fall guys … ?
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:37 pm
September 25? That is not late summer, it will be the fall season. WTF, I’m kinda happy that it will be here but 3 more weeks? Way to keep your word AT&T
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Nice to finally have a date! I’ve been on vacation in Europe for 2 months and was using mms just fine on my unlocked phone on vodafone and was loving it!
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:38 pm
It’s not that exciting. I think I’ve used it twice since it came out in Canada.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:39 pm
@mark
we’re in the us, people are a bunch of of barking dogs, but no bite.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:39 pm
I am perfectly pleased with AT&T’s explanation… Now we have a date… I could do without it but I am looking forward to the convenience of it…
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:39 pm
Anyone notice how they didn’t mention tethering??
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:41 pm
I am very happy with this decision to do MMS. I will take a picture of my daughter exiting my wife’s ****** when she is birthed and send it to my entire contact list.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:45 pm
it’s about DAMM TIME!!! It really sucked that other iphone carriers supported mms and terthing way before ATT did. I found it so stupid that the iphone is an american invented product made by APPLE and yet we are the last to haveqll of the iphones full use of features. ATT better not limit us to 10 sec video mms.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:45 pm
One step closer to being a SMRT phone!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:47 pm
yey!!1 im so happy lol
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Everyone get your tissues out, wipe the tears away, take a deep breath. The wait is over.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Paul, Can you send me a photo of that sweet action?
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:51 pm
lol…so is anyone going to sue them for the 4 days past promised date?
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Bull!! Im gunna wait till I see it actually get released until I get excited about it. Im tired of explaining to my friends with normal phones that I cant send or receive pics. (btw, theyve been doing it since the times of the old flipphones when all people ever did was use phones to talk into them) so if they dont step up and actually admit their wrongdoing, they just lost aa loyal customer.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:52 pm
I’m happy, finally I can tell the girls to send the pics to my phone and not have to give them my email
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Nothing will change for me on September 25. MMS is an archaic technology. Mobile email works much better for me.
If you’ve been waiting for this, though, enjoy!
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:55 pm
WELCOME TO THE 21st CENTURY APPLE!!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:00 pm
WOW, I also heard that the iPhone will be capable of tethering with the iPhone 3.1 upgrade however, ATT wants a piece of the action and CHARGE an extra data plan for tethering WTF!!!!!!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:01 pm
“their beloved carrier” hahahahah – what we are waiting for is tethering.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:02 pm
That is very interesting that ATT&T checks this blog. Complain more.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:03 pm
On the 25th, I’m going to MMS all those pictures and videos I stored up all summer (and the first few days of fall) just to test out the feature and that robust network upgrade. I suggest everyone do the same.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Finally! I’m anticipating a crash in the Northern grid because we’re all gonna be MMS crazed. As an aside, anyone else notice the iPhone used in their press header (which the model is holding)? Considering MMS only works on the 3G and 3GS, nice of them to use the original iPhone for this press release. Haha.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Finally
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:07 pm
At least we have a date though its past summer and into fall. So who’s gonna sue for them not having it for summer!?
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:12 pm
3 days earlier and they would have at least kept their word, do they want to go through the hassle that some people are going to give them
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:13 pm
I’m still leaving.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:13 pm
@Donna how do you figure? I cannot imagine how you have decided it is an original iPhone judging by a picture of the front of it? The front has remained the same for every iPhone.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:15 pm
AT&T still lied.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:15 pm
I can see how many people are trying to file lawsuits because ATT advertised it as late summer
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:19 pm
@Frazam I’ve used it once in Canada lol.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Haha since day one ? But a date is nice. They still need to address high speed and well tethering altough why ask when that feature has already been realeased thru this site
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Wooooohoooooo!!!!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
The info is out there to enable MMS already without jailbreaking. Literally takes ten minutes of your time.
I think the extra traffic mms will create will be balanced out by the fewer emails sent with pictures attatched. Tethering is another beast altogether… I wouldn’t be surprised if they held tht back for a while. But again… The info is out there to enable that as well.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Whoo hoo! It’s about freaking time! Thanks for a date!
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:39 pm
So AT&T has the power to change when summer end, or they just can’t get it together!
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:41 pm
that mms hack doesn’t work for some people and some iphones…and for some of us that hack actually ended up costing us quite a bit of money in charges from AT&T…I wouldn’t recommend it, especially to save three or four weeks…
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:41 pm
AT&T should have announced this June 19th instead of waiting a few weeks before the end of Summer (when we’re all expecting to get it based on their late summer adverts). AT&T you couldn’t make it 1 week earlier – to safely be late summer? Oh well. Still the date of knowing exactly when is very welcomed. I know I will use the feature -
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:46 pm
so if I put off paying my bill for a while, then when they call about it being past due, I promise it paid in full by end of summer, then pay it 3 or 4 days after I promised the AT&T rep I’d pay it…we’ll be good right?
I mean, we’re still cool right AT&T? You’ll understand, I’m sure, I had to make sure it was the optimal time to remove that money from my bank account…and my desire to avoid overdraft fees…a more pleasant user experience for both of us, no?
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:47 pm
AT&T don’t you think that loyal customers deserve some compinsation for this like atleats 1 month of free tethering?
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:49 pm
That’s funny to watch
Here in Germany, we have MMS for some years, it’s as usual as SMS. Welcome in club, US!
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:49 pm
This just in: God has decided to delay the Autumnal Equinox so that AT&T can upgrade their network…
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:50 pm
I hope all the people who were freaking out on the older blog post about this, and saying they were going to return their phones or sue AT&T if they didn’t deliver before Sept. 22nd, are going to stand by their word.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:50 pm
@ spook lmao. Ur very funny. We should try it! Lmao!
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:53 pm
An Update on iPhone MMS for our Mobility Customers We know many of our iPhone customers are eager for an update on our rollout schedule for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). We’ve been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS when it launches – and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers. MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day.
We know that iPhone users will embrace MMS. The unique capabilities and high usage of the iPhone’s multimedia capabilities required us to work on our network MMS architecture to carry the expected record volumes of MMS traffic and ensure an excellent experience from Day One. We appreciate your patience as we work toward that end.
We’re riding the leading edge of smartphone growth that’s resulted in an explosion of traffic over the AT&T network. Wireless use on our network has grown an average of 350 percent year-over-year for the past two years, and is projected to continue at a rapid pace in 2009 and beyond. The volume of smartphone data traffic the AT&T network is handling is unmatched in the wireless industry. We want you to know that we’re working relentlessly to innovate and invest in our network to anticipate this growth in usage and to stay ahead of the anticipated growth in data demand, new devices and applications for years to come.
We thank you for your business and look forward to keeping you updated on our initiatives.

September 3rd, 2009 at 2:58 pm
After reading many of the post, ATT can’t win!! If they had allowed MMS and the network crashed, some would be unhappy. They delayed MMS and tethering to minimize problems until they had upgraded or improved their network. I guess they could have tried to anticipate the iPhone demand and charged everyone more, but still people would be unhappy. No one knew how popular the iPhone would be, not even Apple (have you read about shortages). I bet when MMS, tethering and whatever new feature is available, some won’t be happy and ready to jump to Verizon or whoever. Geez …!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Does anyone think that a company missing a self-imposed product/feature release deadline is actually grounds for a lawsuit?
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:08 pm
We should all MMS the **** out of AT&T on the 25th.
Just to test out the network, of course.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Rogers only has free tethering until the new year so perhaps everyone will start charging extra for data that’s already been paid for
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
It’s about damn time all my friends kept on messing with me on how they can send mms on the bb tour curve storm etc. I was actually considern going to a bb becuz I do send alot of pix but fo get dat lol blackberries freeze too much iPhones don’t love yu apple, n 4 all yu haters. Kiss it !!!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:13 pm
So is tethering going live at the same time?
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Great article! I’ve done a few blog articles about similar issues and plenty of free and inexpensive iPhone apps! Some are most popular and others are unique.
Kick Butt
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:26 pm
@Kostik MMS/SMS is very common here in Canada/USA as well… MMS was the only thing that was lacking on iPhone (except in most of the rest of the world for iPhone starting in June lol)
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Every iPhone user should send MMS’s all at once to see if AT&T networks can handle it.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:33 pm
lol @ manhol1dup. I agree. How about 7:00pm est tomorrow? Everybody at once to their entire phonebook.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:37 pm
http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=1574 anyone else think its funny that although they are giving the original iphone no mms love on purpose because people have hacked it an proven it can mms the same as a 3g or 3gs iphone and the freakin original razor could mms and we know the iphone isnt even in the same class as the razor they still chose to have a lady using one in their post about iphone mms? and btw at&t maybe verizon can handle the iphone maybe they will do just as bad but the one good thing is competition breeds a better product and ur product is service and so far ur product is lacking no mms supposrt how come every other carrier could get there mms up and running before u?
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:37 pm
oh man, this sounds messy already LOL
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:38 pm
Every generation of iPhone should have this feature. I will not be enticed to buy a new iPhone because of software updates.
For me to buy a new phone it must be another leap forward in technology.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:39 pm
We will all have to download the update from iTunes. Remember how the activation experience was for a lot of people back in June and the year before? Probably not the “best possible experience” that AT&T keeps seeking.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Maybe 3.1.1 will be released on the 25? Or maybe just a carrier upgrade via iTunes.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Yea i feel like its 2005 again, oh whats this camera’s built into phones? what crazy nonsense will phones be able to do now? Internet? naww…..
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:44 pm
A month after I got my iPhone 3g. Fair enough.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Also, I hope they can flip a switch to improve the network capacity as I’ve not seen anything improve since they announced the 3GS in June. Maybe they have a huge amount of hidden capacity that they holding on to for MMS and on the 25th they’ll flip the switch and everything will be a cell phone 3G Utopia! Actual 3G speeds when I have 5 bars rather than spinning and nothing being transferred, forcing me to go to Edge to check email.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:55 pm
I wonder if it will be earlier – Maybe they are under promising and planning to over deliver… which is a great customer service booster. Apple sort of did the same thing with Snow Leopard operating system… Just a thought…
Also after thinking about it – I would much rather get it and it be right verses – get it and it barely work (Verizon did that with the Blackberry Storm – let’s just say it was terrible no better yet a horrible experience – and helped me decide to come to iPhone)
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:57 pm
I hate how people are complaining so much!! AT&T just Doesnt want any MORE bad reputations from network crashing. AT&T just wants a good user experience. The iPhone is a data HOG! and so many iPhones doesn’t help the bandwith problem. So stop complaining if AT&T is a few days late!!!
I don’t see people screaming at apple for coming out with rumoured or needed updates or product a few days later than expected or delayed a few months. Jeez…
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:06 pm
OMG!! Finally!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:17 pm
ATT can’t win for losing. It sucks yes that MMS has taken so long. Whatever the reason is. But nevertheless this is partially Apples fault. They wanted society to move on to the latest an greatest technology which really was they wanted to figure out a way to implement it was more like it. People read between the lines.
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I bet this software update will block/disable the benm.at hack for tethering
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Yes, atleast we know what to expect now. Frist I was just thing like they not care.
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Can’t wait that long!!!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:38 pm
My goodness. Just send a frickin’ e-mail with a picture or sound file attached. That’s like what, 1990s techology? Heck, maybe even 1980s. Still works pretty well. Is MMS really going to make your life better? One would think it is the ultimate game-changing event judged by these posts and so many others I have read. Yikes.
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:57 pm
you missed a c there buddy exited instead of excited lol
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:03 pm
I wonder if AT&T realizes that by delaying the release for 3 days they have opened themselves and Apple up to huge amounts of legally sound lawsuits. How stupid, unless they turn it on sooner. They screwd up the first time, now they can’t even keep there “late summer” promise. Damn! When the iPhone becomes available on another network, I’m jumping ship. Not because of poor signal or dropped calls, but because of bad customer sevice. They lied! Plan and simple. They don’t value me as a customer. They just don’t care. Unless that changes, I’m gone!
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:13 pm
I lack confidence. I’ll believe it when I see it…
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Don’t know what the hoopla is all about. I use email and it works just dandy…
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:21 pm
STOP WHINING! THEY SAID END OF SUMMER. THEY WENT OVER 4 EXTRA DAYS , WHOOPDYFUKINDOODA! Why are people thinking that August 31st is the last day of summer?? You have roughly 3 weeks left of summer and 3 weeks till the MMS is available
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:42 pm
@Sean
remind me never to use you as a lawyer… Well I guess you can, but after it’s thrown out of court… YOU CAN’T SUE FOR THAT… Haha
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:43 pm
It’s been three years of not having MMS with the iPhone. I’m sure waiting a little longer will be worth it. I’m looking to it so that I can send my location, contacts and pictures through text.
I hope iPhone doesn’t go to a sucky network like Verizon. I still doubt that it will ever go to other networks but if it does, again, I hope it’s not a sucky network.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:03 pm
We suck.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Tethering? Hel-lo?!
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
We suck more.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Well finally! not having MMS has just killed me. Some people are trying to stand up for AT&T saying its only a few days after summer. But it’s just the fact they not only does AT&T hold US iPhone users back from two big upgrades in MMS & Tethering (which is frustrating enough since especially MMS is not some new premium feature, in their very own network they supply that feature!) But they put a very loose deadline to roll it out “Late summer” Now, they will miss their own deadline that they advertised. Even if its a few days, that’s completely unacceptable! I don’t know, maybe since becoming a iPhone user, I’ve become spoiled and self-centered. But I think not only did they fail to stay on top of things, but also failed to at least keep us informed on the status of these features. But hey, maybe I’m just very nieve and have no idea what I’m talking about. However, AT&T has to be aware that they look stupid for not having these out with everyone else in the world. So they should be very clear why they can’t release it. Let us be informed about the unique situation they are in because of this and so I can at least be understanding.
Another thing is… What was it about these features that all the other international carriers could handle… But the once phone monopoly: AT&T, couldn’t handle?
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Alot of you guys are dicks. Thanks AT&T.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Wow. Ok I’m dumb. I just went straight to the comments and didn’t even see the AT&T video… So that answers my questions about communication from AT&T. So scratch that out of my rant. But, why did they send this now? It would have helped so much more to explain that stuff like at least a month ago.
Still don’t get why AT&T is the only one that is having this issue..
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:38 pm
i can finally mark my calender
/very happy
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:49 pm
You should have “been on it” the day 3.0 went live.
September 3rd, 2009 at 9:01 pm
We suck the most
September 3rd, 2009 at 9:34 pm
I think that att should be taught a lesson to not **** with iphone users….as soon as you get the update that enables the mms on our phones, start sending mms to everyone and everywhere send em often and send them constantly. If all of us do it i am sure we can cause a blackout of the new and improved network. if your reading this att, really shouldnt have messed with the iphone community!@!
September 3rd, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Update on tethering… From Dallas MN techblog from ATT
UPDATE II: Here’s AT&T’s official comment today on tethering for the iPhone:
We expect to offer tethering in the future. By its nature, this function could exponentially increase traffic on the network, and we need to ensure that some of our current upgrades are in place before we can deliver the expanded functionality with the excellent performance that customers expect.
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:14 pm
absolute bull. I live in Iowa City and the ATT network here is absolutely worthless. Their employees lie out of their teeth. They’ve been telling customers for the past 3 years that 3G is coming in a couple of months. They have no idea how to service any of their phones and are clueless about their plans. My phone is constantly in SOS mode. CONSTANTLY. I’ve had three different phones with ATT and multiple SIM cards but SOS is always an issue. If you’re in the Iowa City area and are thinking about switching to ATT…DON’T DO IT. You won’t be able to use your service half the time.
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Yaya(: everyone just chill..you can’t do **** about it
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:22 pm
that at&t guy is such a *****
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:23 pm
damnit dilldo
September 3rd, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Here’s the ultimate missing feature, indoor coverage AT?T!!! Everyone is complaining about the wrong thing. I just wish we could get a signal inside of Walmart or the mall or, let’s see, my freakin house. Love Apple, Hate AT&T. ??????????????
September 3rd, 2009 at 11:48 pm
For those who are wanting to sue AT&T, was there something in your contract that stated you would recieve all the devices services and did it come out of AT&Ts pr department. It won’t hold up, don’t waste your money.
September 4th, 2009 at 12:12 am
AT&T’s contract doesn’t state that they’ll restrict your services if your device is capable and you’re paying for the service. My wife and I have a family unlimited texting plan (includes MMS) and my iPhone has the MMS capability already. The only reason MMS doesn’t work is because AT&T blocks it when it detects an iPhone on the account. I see this as a breach of contract on AT&T’s part as it says nowhere that they will impose an artificial restriction on the device. When my wife and I first bought iPhone 3G we knew there was no MMS because the opine was not capable. As soon as 3.0 came out and the capability was there it should have been available.
September 4th, 2009 at 2:46 am
All of you complainers are ungrateful ********. AT&T explained why it took so long. If they had released MMS any earlier there would have been problems and, God forbid, you all would be whining and moaning even more than you are now. Be happy that us iPhone users now have a set date. Be happy we’re getting it at all. Heck, if I were AT&T I wouldn’t think any of you naysayers were worthy of MMS.
September 4th, 2009 at 4:04 am
What’s the difference between sending an MMS and sending a picture in an email that took so long to come out. Tethering is completely different since it will use a lot more bandwidth, but why was this amazing device not able to support something that has been around for several years now on day one? I’m not trying to come across as a jerk or anything I really don’t understand. I also don’t understand why messaging isn’t just built into the data plan though other than the business side of it.
September 4th, 2009 at 5:07 am
ON SEPTEMBER 26 ALL IPHONE USERS SEND A MMS AT 3:00pm EST 12:00 PST SEE IF ATT CAN HANDLE IT PAST THIS ON.. POST THIS ON TWITTER,FACEBOOK MYSPACE OR TWITTER ME.. @Yojoseph if. You will do this
September 4th, 2009 at 6:02 am
Sorry ATT, I’m calling bullshiiite on this. Sending an MMS message might only take a few seconds on 3G or a minute or two on Edge. Now. What uses more bandwidth on the wireless spectrum: Safari, InternetRadiobox, or mms messaging? So how come Safari was able to be used from day one, but not mms? It goes over the very same wireless spectrum, does it not?
And how can tethering use more bandwitdth? The available bandwidth is the same, be it on a laptop or a cell phone. And since the bandwidth is being used by the iPhone and not the laptop, then the bandwidth usage would be the same, would it not? Just the online time via tethering would be greater, right? It is still using the same bandwidth.
So. ATT, please come up with new excuses. Please?
September 4th, 2009 at 6:21 am
We sort of suck because we don’t have the iPhone
September 4th, 2009 at 8:31 am
Everyone calling bullshit needs to go read up on cellular data traffic vs. the way SMS and MMS work. And anyone who thinks tethering won’t use more data needs… well, you need to do a bit of rethinking as well. I guarantee that you would use more data tethered to a multitasking-capable laptop with multiple browser windows, IM, Twitter, a torrent client, email, Facebook, etc. open than you would on an iPhone.
September 4th, 2009 at 8:32 am
We’re also sort of scare of WiFi and GPS (ohnoz!).
September 4th, 2009 at 9:29 am
Anybody else notice that guy had crazy eyes? I felt like he was looking into my soul!
September 4th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
AT&T 2 group up with apple iPhone until 2 more yrs.. Cool becuse verizon has to get ready..
September 4th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
@Anthony
yeah, sounds great, because as a friend I want to get a bunch of stupid pics and videos that mean nothing to me, just to teach some company a “lesson”.
Here’s a thought, back away from the keyboard, take a deep breath and count to ten slowly. You should start to feel your rage and hatred slowly disappear. Finish by going to your happy place. Then, lesson learned, it’s better to think and act with reason and rational than with stupidity.
September 4th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
don’t uderstand. already have mms on my iphone
September 4th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
I think it’s horse **** that I have to upgrade to 3g or 3gs to have mms, they can’t tell me that someone is not smart enough to figure it out on the 2g.. Boo to all of them and I will stick with what I have and jailbreak it.. So screw you apple and at&****
September 4th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
You people crack me up. You whine more than a whipple blower pushing 20psi of boost!!!!!

You people kill me. I love the people that ***** about at&t. If you dont like it go to sprint or verizon. What alot of you dont realize is if the iphone was on verizon the network would be brought down just as bad if not worse then at&t. And also NO WIFI. Another problem i have is people think the iphone was behind all these others phones that have been doing MMS for years now. They real problem is that other phones are behind by not having EMAIL on there phones . The people the lack this are the poeple that are behind.

I also would like to add. To the people that are crying about having to upgrade to the 3g/3gs. Are you kidding me ??? Stop being so cheap why would you not upgrade? The first iphone was great, but lacks in all areas.

I think it’s odd that MMS was already accessible in Germany on the iPhone 3G and 3Gs. So coming back to the states and finding my little camera option on my text messaging gone kinda bummed me out. PS the iphone is owned by the cell phone companies in Europe so getting my 3G 16GB for 3 euros and then my 32GB 3Gs for 40 Euros was awesome. Ah well I am glad to hear that my MMS application will be back at the end of the month
September 6th, 2009 at 1:04 am
About time. Well that’s one down and one to go. Tethering ur next.
September 6th, 2009 at 10:54 am
Ahh I can’t wait..Ima send my gf pics all day(:
September 6th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Why is it that AT&T requires us to download a software update, where as the rest of the world had MMS right from the iPhone 3.0 OS firmware update months ago. Is AT&T going to give us something special that the rest of the world doesn’t have?
September 6th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
OMG!! The ability to send MMS messages makes my heart jump with joy
my life can be full again…sorta-still need the tethering capability.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
My iPhone doesn’t work on the AT&T network! Join the facebook protest: http://tinyurl.com/nl8n5n
September 9th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
I am very excited to see this FINALLY coming to the iPhone. AT&T is **** and the iPhone is the only reason why I have them. I can not believe they made us wait for MMS when everyone all over the flipping world is able to use this ability and tethering! Now I hear ATT is going to charge for tethering, I don’t know why I am surprised, they charge for everything.
It is about time AT&T and I think someone should SUE YOU for making us wait! Everything better work PERFECTLY or I am going to be very disappointed.
September 9th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
Have just updated my 3GS to system 3.1. Still NO MMS. Sincerely.
September 10th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Tethering is not available? I have been using my iPhone for Internet access at my house for about a month now. Not unlocked or jailbroken.
September 11th, 2009 at 11:26 am
ok so Version 3.1 came out yesterday, downloaded if from Itunes still no MMS….but then again its not Sept 25th…still waiting
September 12th, 2009 at 6:32 am
I can not figure out how to get my verizon email contact list onto the iphone. I can’t bring it up on the phone but I can anywhere else when remotely accessing ??? Anyone know ?
September 12th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Ok….next item on the agenda… When will we be able to use our ringtones we buy from iTunes for our new mms feature????? Why can’t apple add this on the update??? Please allow us to use our created ringtones from iTunes as our text messaging ringtone instead of the handful of lame ones that are currently allowed!!!! Pretty please
September 14th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
When will there be a family data plan? And how about fixing those echoing phone calls where you have to hear yourself regurgitate everything you just said? I think we pay enough money to not have that! And we pay enough to deserve a family data plan! I can’t believe how much I pay for mine!
September 15th, 2009 at 8:35 am
why can’t the iphone 3g/3gs be just as capable as the g1. yeah, it’s prolly the best smartphone out there, but the g1 let’s you do absolutely anything with it and htc won’t brick your phone. (atleast not that i’ve heard anyways.) i love my iphone 3gs, it’s the best phone i got, but i missed the capabilities the g1 has. if there was a smart phone as beast as the iphone 3gs with the same amount of free reign the g1 has, i would pay just about anything for it.
September 15th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
oh man…I can’t wait until Verizon gets the iphone! I love my BB Storm but I just want to shove it in all the 3GS users who are walking around my area on Edge!!! haha…
September 16th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
So anyone know why my tethering feature went away rondomly I have the Ben hack thing and about 2pm it’s gone on my phone delete the profile and reinstall it it is still gone? Any ideas?
September 20th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Yeah…”the bottom line is we hear you and we’re on it.” um, how about you say this “the bottom line is, we hear you and we’re SORRY!!” am I the only one who’s outright pissed that I’ve been paying for something I’m NOT getting for OVER A YEAR?! $&@! AT&T!!!
September 22nd, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Finally. When I send a picture, I want them to see it right then. Not wait til later. Apple, you really fucked up. I have been with AT&T for 10 years now. Once the iPhone is on another carrier, I am gone
September 22nd, 2009 at 3:55 pm
You spelled excited wrong…fyi

Hi Att. Thanks for quelling everyone’s burning frustration and wonderment now that Fall has begun and it’s well past your “later in summer” announcement. Interesting video… I especially enjoyed the completely dishonest statement explaining that the reason for the delay is so that you can get your network ready. Really?! Hmm, that’s funny, because you’ve been in bed with Apple for the last 2 years. You knew the new OS had MMS in it and yet you still couldn’t get your act together?. That’s a pretty difficult one to swallow! It’s also funny how every other network provider in the world was able to actuate it except for you, the “best 3g network” in the biz. You guys are so full of malarkey. If only Apple had been able to work out the deal with Verizon… Tell me, how does it feel to be sloppy second?
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:42 am
I agree lets all send mms on the 25 for the whole day. That would be a way to protest against att.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:11 am
First of all, most of you have had this conversation: Someone shows you some REALLY funny picture on their mobile phone. You make the mistake of openly admiring the picture, and the next thing you know, you’re hearing the dreaded phrase AGAIN… “Oh, I’ll send you the picture.”. Then comes the embarassing discussion about why the most advanced multimedia phone on the planet cannot receive mms text messages. Embarrassing is an understatement.
Someone earlier said “welcome to the 21st century…”. I say “Welcome to the 20th century.”. MMS is really an antiquated communications technology.
Ultimately, the responsibility for this silliness falls on Apple’s shoulders. There is no law that says AT&T had to be THE carrier for the iPhone. Further, there is no law that says there can be only one carrier for the iPhone. Finally, even though it does not affect me as I have a 3gs, how retarded must we be to believe that the old 2g iPhones couldn’t participate in the MMS party??? That’s crazy! I’d be willing to bet that there are plenty of 2g users out there who’d be more than willing to pay extra for mms texting.
No, Apple is responsible for ALL of this stupid mess. Way to go Apple! Greed above functionality!
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:49 am
I love how everyone is complaining about not having MMS, also for having to pay for it for all this time. I have not seen any extra charges on my bill regarding MMS fees, so I don’t get what your trying to prove. Also, I thought the video was an apology anyway, because they say they have been working in this for quite some time now. And do the person that said that they should have been working on the networks sooner, AT&T has many many smart phones on their network, not just the iPhone. I know hundreds of people that use blackberries and palms. They take over alot of the 3G too. Remember people, these kind of things cost money, and how much people do you think are going to be sending a picture on Sept. 25th? They had to buy whole new equipment just to support 1 phone. I think you guys complaining need to think more into how much they have to spend on us customers, then what you “need”.
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:31 pm
wow people. chill. we’ve been able to send pictures on the iphone this whole time. through our email to others texting set up. mms will make it easier, and i cant wait for that. some people getting way out of hand with this stuff. if you have such a problem with AT&T or Apple or the iphone.. then DONT have an iphone!!
September 24th, 2009 at 3:19 pm

September 25th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
So here in Oregon I and some friends have all updated this morning yet still can’t send or receive pics via texting. Did we all miss something? Do something wrong?
September 25th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Hell yeah people that’s what I’m talking about and it’s working just fine!
September 25th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
Okay, fixed problem. You have to update carrier setting in itunes not just download upgrade. Sheesh.
September 25th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
“Update carrier settings” Yep, it took 5 seconds…the first 3 pic texts I tried to send hung up atabout 90% and I got an error message to try again….maybe everyone is tryig it out at the same time?? I’m sitting across from a friend with an iphone whom I sent a test text with pic to (it finally, sluggishly, sent….) but it’s 5 minutes later and she STILL has not received the text….hmmmmm….
September 25th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
I am so excited! This was a case of ‘not appreciating what you have until its taken away’ and then having to wait over two years to get it back! Ridiculous. I had downloaded the carrier update this morning and have been sending MMS all day here in San Diego, CA
Happy Sept 25th!
September 25th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
I do not have the upgrade still…idk what’s going on.. im updating my itunes so hopefully that helps. How do you update carrier settings??
September 25th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Reboot your iphone after the update.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Pic/Audio Text, plus my area went 3G all in the same week….Christmas came early…
September 26th, 2009 at 1:14 am
i downloaded it, i see the new changes in my text app, but my pics don’t go through:-( It looks like its sending, but then i get the red exclamation point.
September 28th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Now that I upgraded to get mms capability, I’m having a lot of difficulty with my iPhone simply not coming on. Most times, I have to reboot, and even then, it doesn’t always come on. Anyone else having this issue? Very frustrating!
September 30th, 2009 at 8:30 am
Brent, I have had the exact same problem. Rebooting has always fixed my problem, but let’s face it we shouldn’t have to do this. By paying approx $100 a month for data / texting / and 450 Iphone any time minutes, I shouldn’t have to do this, and frankly tethering should be included as a part of this monthly charge. After I finish my 2 year contract in June 2010, I will seriously look at other options.
