PwnageTool 3.1.3 for Mac OS X Released by Dev-Team: Supports iPhone 3GS 3.1
It was just one day ago we mentioned that a new PwnageTool was on the horizon and for those iPhone 3GS owners who stayed on 3.0, your patience has paid off as the latest PwnageTool for Mac OS X has been release by the Dev-Team. If you couldn’t wait and you updated your iPhone 3GS to 3.1 via iTunes, you have a slight problem as you will not be able to jailbreak.
The iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 – PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box. If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment.

Spending two hours redoing my webclips, resetting my autofill names and passwords, restoring backups onto apps, resetting up FTP servers, IM accounts, resyncing, etc, etc, etc… just so I can have genius mixes and app management for three home screens?

I’m tempted. I have successfully downgraded my 3GS from 3.1 to 3.0 (I was lucky enough to get my ECID hashed with Cydia); now I can’t use a number of recent ‘augmented reality’ apps, and the Dropbox app, all of which require 3.1 upgrade.

@macboy15,Can’t believe people are still j/b? Are you kidding? Backgrounder allows me to use my internet streaming apps while doing other things with the iPhone and 3G enabler allows me to use my SlingBox over a 3G connection and not have to be around WiFi.
Plus, sbsetting makes the iPhone so much nicer to use.

It seems that the dev. Team is leaving the jailbreak to just mac users.
There is no Windows version of PwnageTool it is a Mac OS X tool only, we are not developing a Windows version of PwnageTool.
It also seems that if you did not JB in 3.0 or 3.0.1 you are locked out….

pwnage tool was always intended for mac. The release for winblows will b redsn0w. This update is big step toward beating apples attempt at stopping 3gs users from being able to continue JBing there phones. The victory will be when 3.1 can b jailbroke OOTB so those that missed the window for the 3.0 signature will now then have insurance they can restore with 3.1 and rejailbreak anytime. Thank god for the devotion of the Dev-Team to allow those of us without there skill set to use our iDevices the way we see fit.

PwnageTool is NEVER for Windows. You’ll have to wait for redsn0w. The Dev Team does this for just for kicks with no compensation, so hang tight and it’ll be out eventually.

Im on fw 3.0.1 jb’n for backgrounder and winterboard and qik. Mms, vvm, and tethering are working. @ freddy k. U can jb a previously jb’n 3gs that has already been jb’n on 3.0 or 3.0.1. If u buy a 3gs with 3.1 already installed, you cannot jb.

In fact I’ve yet to jailbreak and I’m running one iPhone (3G) on 3.0 and the other (3GS) on 3.1 thankfully without any issues on either one. I don’t even notice any speed issues.

The only reason I jailbroken my 3G was to be able to unlock it. To my surprise it opened up a world of some cool apps. Backgrounder. Winterboard albeit not an app it’s great. Live the themes that are available.
Not going to upgrade to 3.1. What am I missing?The ability to arrange apps in iTunes and Genious play lists. That’s ok. My 3GS and itouch can do that.

I jailbroke my iphone 3gs using this tool. The only thing I noticed is the carrier name is missing beside the signal bars. Anybody has any idea why and how to fix it?

iPhone 3GS running a jailbroken 3.1 successfully usage Pwnage Tool. Once I restored apps with AptBackup I was stuck in Safe Mode. Uninstalling Cyntact solved my issue. Running Winterboard just fine and Backgrounder, qTweeter, SBSettings all working great!

Dont see a reason to upgrade to 3.1 either way yet. Not really gaining that much doing so compared to the issues 3.1 people are seeing. To gain what? Dropbox and a few apps? Not worth it at this time until the 3.1 bugs are fixed or more apps start requiring 3.1

Oh how I wish I didn’t hold out soo long to get an iPhone. I loved my touch 2g w/jb. Loved it soo much I got rid of it to get an iPhone 3gs and was told by AT&T rep that the phones they sold came with 3.0 and I didn’t need to upgrade it. Sooo I sit here with my blazing fast phone that I can’t do any of the things I miss with…… Can’t wait for a jb that doesn’t require a previous jb. Everyone here saying a new version of redsn0w but somewhere else I read it will be greenp0ison …. I don’t care what it’s called I just want it and if I have to never update my OS again I will keep 3.1 if it’s the last OS they’re ever able to jb. Okay done crying, everyone resume not caring jk

After my 3.1 update/JB, I have the same “no carrier name” but phone works fine. BTW I used the Windows workaround to JB my 3GS into 3.1 and it was as easy as picking your nose to do. Just needed the custom firmware found elsewhere.

It gets on my tits how everyone goes nuts and starts slagging off the dev team, if youve got a problem with how long it takes to jailbreak then go do it yourself.
They are doing it as fast as they can. As for no windows version thats always been the case, pwnagetool and redsnow(and quickpwn) before that are totally differnt beasts, pwnagetool implements the jailbreaks into a firmware file for you to flash, redsnow does it to your phone on the fly.
Good things come to those who wait….and stop bitching.

Well said Ben. Bitching people can start developing there own JB program if they can’t wait. If people are stupid enough to update to 3.1 immediately, then “to bad”! I waited until yesterday and went from a JB 3.0.1 to a JB 3.1 for my 3GS. And beside the missing carrier name beside the signal bar, then it works fine.

For anyone missing the carrier name after jailbreaking 3.1. You can install a program via cydia called: ‘make it mine’ or ‘mim’. This app allows you to change the carrier text. So you can either add the name of your carrier manually or assign your own one.

Apparently you can update to 3.1 by using the same methods you used to install the updated carrier file, except you’d point it to a custom 3.1 firmware (made with pwnagetool).
Not sure if it works with AT&T or not. I think the same issues with missing carrier name, etc. still apply.

I wish I new how to jb just starting to learn my way around a computer and other gadgets. ( didn’t Realize what I was missing oh so dumb of me) but oh well still young and time to learn. Will there be a JB for people who where dumb enough to upgrade to 3.1?With windows? And where will I find a good walkthrough made for toddlers in the tech world. Thanx in advance. I just read up on this, and this is the gist I get: Backup thing is to allow you to downgrade your FW in the future by circumventing Apple’s checks on which FW you are running (right now, Apple doesn’t let you downgrade to 3.0 if you upgraded to 3.1 unless you have the SHSH (signature hash) created by Cydia using info from your phone. If you hit the button in Cydia when you were JB at 3.0/3.0.1 to “Make my life easier” or something like that, then you should be able to downgrade. Just go to Saurik’s blog, not sure if I can link it.. He explains it all there.
@63, 64 If you’re on 3.1 and did not hit the “make my life easier” button in Cydia at 3.0/3.0.1, then you are currently screwed. The dev team had warnings not to upgrade, so you’ll just have to wait until they come out with a JB for 3.1 (no one knows when that could be).
There will probably be a separate tool for Windows, although it won’t be quickpwn (they usually make redsn0w and possibly winpwn for windows iirc). However, you can do a bit of googling and find tutorials already for how to install from windows. If you have a friend with a Mac, you can also get them to make the custom firmware using quickpwn, or you can download it from some torrent/rapidshare (again, as long as you didn’t upgrade to 3.1 without doing the “make my life easier” thing).

I should add, especially for 64, keep an eye on the dev team’s blog (I subscribe to their RSS feed–you can sign up for Google Reader if you don’t know what that is/look at YT videos). They posted warnings and will likely post additional updates. I would not update again in the future until you hear what they have to say either way (SO DON’T UPGRADE TO 3.2 when it comes out). It often takes them a long time to release any info, so just try and be patient. I’ve been holding onto 2 old 2Gs I need to sell for a month for a Windows tool but will now probably just download a custom mac-created one. I was waiting for the 3GS all this time too instead of upgrading to 3.1, despite my ~11 pages of disorganized apps

JB my 3GS on this tool… Worked fine… All apps I like in cydia works fine except for cyntact… Gets u stuck in safe mode no matter how many time u try to respring.. I don’t have to install the mms&tethering like I had to in 3.0… 3.1 has it… Works great… App organizing in iTunes works great even the smart playlists…
Why jailbreak? it’s a whole new world of iPhone cababilities you’re missing out on…

Ok so just to clear up, my 3gs was jb on 3.0.1, I hit the “make my life easier” button in cydia, then about a week ago my iPhone took a nasty fall and I shattered my screen, in order to bring it to apple I had to unjailbreak/update to 3.1, will pwngetool work for me?

AFAIK, yes, just follow one of the tutorials (Saurik’s–on his blog–is probably best) and downgrade to 3.0 or 3.0.1 first, then JB if need be (I’m not familiar with the procedure), then use PwnageTool to JB to 3.1
It turns out that the same thing happened to me on one of my old 2Gs but I didn’t see that thing in Cydia so now I may not get as much $ for it.

I just bought the 3gs. 3.1.? was on it and I went and updated everything like a Christmas-morning newb!
Now I read that 3.1.2 cannot be Jailbroken, (and I have windows too!) So what options do I have?
Can I go back to store to get a replacement?
I had the 3g but never wanted to jailbreak to avoid messing it up after getting things the way I wanted, so I would like to JB this new one before I become invested in its configuration, etc.
Any comments?

I have a new IPhone 3GS 3.1.2 with 05.11.07, after having gone through the JB procedure with Blackra1n, I had to switch my phone off and when I switched it back on it then came up with th Itunes link, I switched off and on several times with the same result, so I have had to restore it back to default with Itunes.
So, either I am doing something wrong, or 3.1.2 at the moment can’t be permanently JB’d.
Advice ! Anyone !
