blackra1n Universal Jailbreak on the Horizon?

Not much to go on yet, other than blackra1n.com going live and Twitter chirping it up as usual, but it looks like Geohot is back on mission and his “one exploit to Jailbreak them all” is on its way.
Jeremy’s keeping an eye on things and will post when there’s something worth posting about, until then how happy are we it wasn’t called chocolatera1n…?

Cool, but is anyone talking about an unlock for baseband 5.11.07?
October 8th, 2009 at 7:05 am
Its coming
October 8th, 2009 at 7:05 am
Very cool! Wouldn’t it be nice to have one tutorial to follow and not have to read through 5 or 6 to find the file you need to download and exactly how to proceed. Can’t wait. Baseband 5.11.07 – why are you on that?? I got 4.26.08.
October 8th, 2009 at 7:32 am
@Dryland
You upgraded to Apple’s 3.1?
I haven’t heard ANYTHING about unlock for that baseband. Pretty sure it’s even mentioned in one of geohot’s tweets. (Can’t believe I just typed that last sentence)

I don’t think they’ve focused at all into finding a way to unlock basebad 5.11.07, since they have been pretty strong about not updating through iTunes (Official IPSW anyways)

What’s his twitter page?

So what if he has the new baseband? You don’t know if he upgraded to 3.1 using iTunes. Every new iPhone sold now has 3.1 stock. I have a friend that just got an iPhone and he already has the new baseband. If he wanted to take his phone to tmobile he can’t. It doesn’t matter how much they stress not to update to 3.1 or how many of you think he is an idiot for updating because he had no choice. The phone was given to him like that.

@Chris cox: iPod 3G is the device that geohot is working with at the moment. It is also a Jailbreak, not necessarily an unlock tool. Granted once a device is jailbroken it is only a matter of time until it will be unlocked
October 8th, 2009 at 10:04 am
This is for all devices not just the iPod 3g. So will help those with 3gs 3.1 otb like me. Will only jailbreak though and not unlock as far as I can see. The significant progress with this is that you don’t have to revert to 3.0 first.

@Christopher Cox
Don’t think that was directed at me, but still just wanted to clarify I wasn’t assuming they did. Just asked if he did. My GF got 3.1 OTB as well, she just wants backgrounder, etc. though. AT&T is just fine.
Never say never, but the buzz is the new baseband may never be unlocked.

Warning:
There are some things you can’t UN-WATCH.
Chocolaterain is one of them.

Lol@ icebike.
No I’m fine. Still on 3.0.1. However, my gf got my old 3g and upgraded to 3.1 since she’s in Canada and its an AT&T phone. Guess I should just put it up for sale an tell her to get a legit from Rogers.

Dryland, no one there can do a hardware unlock? We have it here and I guess business is booming for those who do it ever since people have been accidentally updating their 3G units to 3.1.

This would be so great! The days of waiting (not that I’m not greatful to the Dev Team for doing something that I could not do…for free!) for the newest Apple firmware to be broken would be over! If they could do that and make reverting baseband firmware easy, the iPhone would be all over the place and on all kinds of carriers!
October 8th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
What’s with the alleged jailbreak/advertisement posts??
October 8th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
One Jailbreak to rule them all. That would be great. Perhaps a fresh set of eyes is just what we all need. I wish him luck…
Sorry, no Windows version… Just kidding.

WHEN IS IT OUT!!!!!
October 9th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Any word on blackra1n? Was wondering when br is coming our.
October 9th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
I was forced to update to 3.1 when I entered some endless reboot cycle on my old 2G. So, 2 questions:
Everyone says that updating to 3.1 updates the baseband, but it says I’m running 04.05.04_G. Does that mean I can unlock whenever I JB?
Anyone know if the 2G can be jailbreaked? There’s a tutorial on iClarified for jailbreaking the 2G using PwnageTool, but it doesn’t mention whether it needs to have been JBed under 3.0/3.0.1 to be eligible for JBing under 3.1.

I am newbie at the whole jailbreaking thing. I just want to jailbreak my 3g phone so i can use google voice.
When you say “jailbreak” – is that just making it so the phone can use apps that are not “outlawed” from the apps store?
When you say “unlock” – is that the term that is used to use the phone on another carrier…cuz i really don’t care about that…i just want to use it “outlawed” apps like Google Voice

I have t-mobile. I’m using blackra1n and the latest baseband. My friend is as well. You must suck with computers, because blackra1n kicks ***.
