iPhone 3GS vs. Droid vs. Droid Eris — Browser Battles!
Android Central has posted up their iPhone 3GS vs. (Motorola) Droid vs. (HTC) Droid Eris, and — spoiler alert!!! — the iPhone 3GS is still king of the browser hill:
Bad news for Droid lovers: the iPhone 3GS beat the heck out of the Droid in the above test. Other tests taken after the video weren’t quite as dramatic as what you’re seeing here, but facts is facts: the iPhone 3GS does load and render pages faster than the Droid.
(It’ll also load pages over 3G while you’re talking on the phone, whereas he CDMA Droids’ effective render speed under those conditions is zero. Multitask that!)
And yes, we’ll boast while we can, because we’re sure as the weekend progresses, the Droids’ will beat the pants off TiPb’s flagship device in other areas…

Droid may get better in web page rendering, but not before a new software push is released.
I suspect Dorid will start using some of the magic in Google Chrome browser 4.0, which was just released this week, and its awesomely fast on Linux and Windows. But this will take a while to get pushed to these phones.
I wonder how much of this due to the network and how much is due to the render engine?
It seems the network would have a big effect if Deiter had a good ATT connection.

@icebike Other reviewers have noted better results with iPhone 3GS on WiFi as well. No doubt as Safari/Nitro and Chrome/V8 both improve, we all win.

why do they even bother releasing phones that will always be secondry to the iphone? whats the point in that? thats like consistantly bring out shoes with no laces and claiming they are good.

You won’t see it on your iphone in Mobile view, or a customized igoogle page, but on default view there it is.

On the iPhone version of this site, it shows a picture of an embedded YouTube video, but no video. That’s nuts.

It’s not just the speed. Those Android browsers are a bit herky-jerky, too. And the text is way too small on the Droid, even when zoomed in. Complete usability fail. lol

Because people are different and there’s no one device for us all. For anyone that e-mails are of the utmost importance a BB is the way to go. For someone that just needs a phone to make and receive calls a lil bs flip phone is perfect. That’s why other devices inferior or different from the iPhone are made and are sold.

I work In network and can say that the iPhone might win this contests but there are many variables that affect that test. You move 3 blocks and the results could be reversed. In Northern Cali Verizon has 3g in 100 % of its sites AT&T can’t say that. They have a map for that. I just pulled down a speed test on my Eris at 1.2 M/sec. Beat that.

The iphone is all about people wanting to be part of a crappy little community. The functionality of the droid and its business application far outweigh and out perform the iphone. SO, iphone = college kids and 40y/o trying to keep young, the new Droid and pretty much any Blackberry are much more practical, and reliable for that matter (Droid to still be seen on that one)

I agree with that Harrison. I messed around with the droid and droid eris, and they were pretty impressive. and the fact that they have the support of verizon’s 3G network and you officially have the phone to beat. iPhone’s, and pretty much everything i, are so overrated it makes me sick.

I just jumped from the iPhone 3GS to the Droid Eris…my reasoning? The iPhone on ATT around here (WNC) is nothing but a toy. As a phone, messaging and or business device it reaks.This may be different where you live. With the Eris (which by the way is a planet in outer space too) I am connected everywhere and while it has a few bumps here and there…it works consistently and flawlessly for staying in touch! The apps in The Market are quite sufficient. It can only get better with a few pushes too. For now I need this phone and this network…Sorry the iPhone will loose out everytime in my neck of the woods!
