iPhone Owners, What’s Your New #2 — Droid, Storm2, N900, Pre, HD2?
iPhone owners, what’s your new #2? We’ve asked this before, but with devices like the Android DROID, BlackBerry Storm2, Nokia N900, Palm Pre, and Windows Mobile HD2 really ramping things up of late, we figured it was a great time to check in again.
Which new device has you most interested? Which is the most tempting? If there was no iPhone, which one would you get? Vote above, and let us know why in the comments!

none if no iPhone all these phones would cost around $500
November 9th, 2009 at 9:26 am
none, with all its faults i still think the iphone blends in the best with my apple stuff.
November 9th, 2009 at 9:29 am
None.
In what surely would still be an anti-Mac/anti-Apple world (because of no iPhone), I’d still be using a simple flip phone.
November 9th, 2009 at 9:44 am
I’d love the HTC HD2. Can’t wait for them to come to the US so I can play with one.
November 9th, 2009 at 9:47 am
I switched from the iPhone 3gs to the HTC Droid Eris on Friday. They are both great phones. I just couldn’t deal with AT&T anymore.
November 9th, 2009 at 9:47 am
N900 all the way. I’ve always had good experiences with Nokia hardware, and Maemo looks really usable.
November 9th, 2009 at 9:52 am
I’d have to say that if I didn’t have an iPhone, I’d be on a Blackberry Bold. I LOVE that beautiful keyboard. And there is no better PIM device than a BB.
November 9th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Before the Droid came out I would have said the Pre.
November 9th, 2009 at 10:06 am
The HD2, only IF there was never an iPhone, which would have had it only my second smartphone ever. Since I’ve used WM/PPC for such a long time I already know how to make these devices work for me. And the HD2 is a killer form factor just like the iPhone IMO.
November 9th, 2009 at 10:15 am
HTC HD2 or any HTC Android phone.
November 9th, 2009 at 10:23 am
@JHUT Why are you here then? The site is called the iphone blog!!!!! Not the droid blog. Beat it. I don’t understand why people that don’t have a iphone or are not looking to get one would be here.
November 9th, 2009 at 10:31 am
I think the Droid Eris is much more attractive as a phone than the Droid. Once it gets Android 2.0, it will be the better phone. It looks really nice too. Plus, you can buy the Eris online for $29…
However, I feel like switching from my 3GS would be a lateral upgrade. I’m waiting for the HD2 or similar.
November 9th, 2009 at 10:37 am
If their was no iPhone these phones would not exist. We would still have BB and Moto Q as the smartphone standards.
November 9th, 2009 at 10:39 am
I’m rocking a Pre right now, but I like the sheer apps that I have with my iPhone. I love them both equally although now I crave more powerful Eris/Hero
November 9th, 2009 at 11:00 am
If there was no iPhone I would go with the HTC HD2, it looks like a nice phone.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:06 am
Hero all day. Small, compact, smart, stylish looking, fast, and Sprint has the cheapest plans and I have reliable service.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:07 am
I would go to the Bold.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:09 am
None. I believe I should always dump my #2 in the pot.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:16 am
@Baltorep That’s not true. HTC has always been creative when it comes to design even when it hasn’t been the most eye catching. The HD2 would have eventually seen the light of day even without the iPhone because WM has always been divided into two camps (touch screen and non-touch screen) so it was just a matter of time.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:27 am
@Baltorep
Who cares? How long do we need to pat Apple’s back? What have they done for me lately? 2007 was a long time ago…
November 9th, 2009 at 11:34 am
Availability of flash player, whereas still no sign for iPhone.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:49 am
Think in a year or two from now that the Android platform will be a real competitor for my iPhone… i hope this drives up Apple’s innovation enough to boost the iPhone OS a bit more !
Then i won’t need to think about switching in the future
November 9th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
N900 all the way. Nothing will pull me away from my 3Gs right now due to services apple has built around the iPhone but I came from the Nokia world and may return one day.
November 9th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
@baltorep
Of course somebody would’ve made a touchscreen phone by now. Do you really think that was such a unique idea?
November 9th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
If they had a Linux option on the hd2, I would be out of the iPhone in a heartbeat!
November 9th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
It would be a tie between HD2 and the Droid but I just listened to the latest engadget podcast and they mentioned that the HD2 had some stability issues and I usually tend to agree with their reviews of devices. I haven’t played with either but I think it has to be the Droid at this point. I’d like it even more if they made one with a virtual keyboard (and made the Android virtual keys better)
November 9th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
The smartphone world would not be nearly what it is now if the iphone had not existed. That said, the Droid would win this contest easily but would prefer it as a slab and no landscape kb.
But i consider the Droid’s screen to be a new standard for myself personally in 2010. I hope Apple responds in the summer with similar or better.
November 9th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
It’s a tough choice, but I’ve always wanted to try android, just without the physical keyboard. HD2 seems like quite the powerhouse, if k ly there were good applications for it. WM has never been great with apps despite their quantity
November 9th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
HD2, no doubt about it. I couldn’t own anything called the “Hero” feel like I should be wearing a mask and a cape. I can’t stand the look of the android os. Looks like some kid got out a box of crayons and went to town. The battery and 3G service bar just looks too cartoony for me.
No crackberrys. I don’t like the physical keyboard. And the storm is the biggest pos phone their is. And the Driod. There’s another *** one. *** name for a fruity device. Slower processor than the 3G[S]. No pinch to zoom. But worst of all, it’s coming out 2 months before Verizon starts putting it’s 4G network online. And it’s not backwards comparable. WTH is that all about?? 2 years locked into a phone without 4G.
Verizon is going to have 2 cities with 4G by the end of the year! Why would you buy something a month before hand that wasn’t 4G capable. Especially if your going to be in one of the 20-30 cities getting it?? $30 for data $30 for tethering capped at 5GB $59 for voice $15 unlimited texting?
November 9th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
I switched to the Droid on Friday. Both phones are great. Currently the Droid lacks some things much like the iPhone did at its launch. The Droid has potential to surpass the iPhone. I couldn’t stand AT&T anymore so bye bye iPhone. Also the lack of a physical keyboard on the iPhone drove me to switch.
November 9th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
1 – iPhone 3GS
2 – iPhone 3G
3 – Nokia 8890,
November 9th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
I would probably wait it out and get the Sony Ericsson X10
November 9th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
RON JEREMY SAYS N900 OR SONY x10 just for giggles.
November 9th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
I like my iPhone but also have the Nokia unlocked E71 on T-Mobile service and will go back to Nokia as my primary device.I have a N900 on order. I use a MacBook Pro at home and I like the Apple line of equipment but all the Apple fan boy **** is starting to get to me. Every phone that comes out has to be compared to the iphone. WHY? The iphone can’t do it all just like no other phone can.
November 9th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
im ditching my 1st gen iphone for either the HTC, Droid or n900 and atm the maemo OS and best camera thats probs gonna be my next phone
November 9th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
Having taken a trip to the droiddoes.com site, I have to say that the phone has chops but it is not an innovator to me. All of the things it listed, with the exception of the messaging and alert handling, can be handled by the iPhone. I am still hoping that Apple revamps the UI to include lock screen widgets and docked message alerts, etc. I still like the iPhone UI better than what I have seen with the Droid phone.
The HTC HD2 has a dandy UI and it makes me a little jealous. That is a good thing. Apple can get lots of ideas from that phone!
All in all, I don’t see a compelling reason to leave the iPhone, even though the competition is heating up nicely.
November 9th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
The HD2 would be my choice but I do like the HTC Eris.
November 9th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
None of these: I’d have kept using my Sony Clie NX70
November 9th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
Behind the iPhone, my second choice would be the N900, because it holds the greatest potential for end-user customization being Linux. But that’s just the nerd in me.
November 9th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
@Alex #35
If I were getting a NEW phone right now I’d probably be looking at the same choices.
Since I’m on a 3G still, moving to a 3GS at this time is not something I’m enthusiastic about, given the two year lock-in.
There may be an iPhone OS refresh by next summer, but I’m not expecting new hardware. So its like 18 months till a better iPhone shows up.
Most people keep a phone for no more than 3 years, and one if a non-iPhone didn’t pan out they could always come back after more compelling hardware emerged, and had a year to work out the bugs.
November 9th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
I would definitely have the motorola razor. The razor was a *** symbol back in the day. People knew you werent fucing around when you pulled out that **** sleek bich out. Definitely the razor.
November 9th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
haha… they took my k’s away!
November 9th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
i was also interested in the x10 but its too far down the line and my 1st gen is on its last legs, the HTC looks too big
@icebike yeah its the linux based OS i like, if enough developers get behind it could be real good, and up to 1GB ram? thats morfe important than CPU clock speed
November 9th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
I said droid, but I would go with the bold..
November 9th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Ron jeremys b!itch says droid
November 9th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
None of the above I would roll with the Sony Ericsson x10 Andriod Phone coming out in January 2010!!!!!!!!!
November 10th, 2009 at 2:05 am
I’d still be using a flip phone with an iPod touch, it’s what I had before the iPhone.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:02 am
I don’t understand why apple hasn’t incorporated the essentials for a device like the iPhone 3gs, which I am currently using. No doubt it is by far the best phone I’ve had thus far and I completly love it but what about flash, camera flash, and customizing (creating files and folders for pictures and music and what not). come one apple we’re spending big bucks on your products at least give us the essentials!! The competition is heating up and you may be losing alot of customers.
