With all of this Jailbreak talk going on lately, what better time to let all of you wanna-be Jailbreakers know that all of our how to guides are completely up to date for firmware 2.2.1. For some people, getting into the world of Jailbreaking can be confusing and that is completely understandable. TiPb wants to make it as cut and dry as humanly possible for you. So here we go.
So you have a iPhone 3G that you will want to unlock? Ok, in order for that to happen you must use our preserving baseband guide which can be found here. Currently only Mac users can use this method, sorry Windows faithful. It is also important to note that you must be on anything but the 2.2.1 firmware (2.2 or earlier) in order to be able to unlock your iPhone 3G with the Dev Teams Yellowsn0w.
Ok, here is another one for all of the Mac users out there. You have a first generation iPhone or an iPhone 3G and all you care about is simply Jailbreaking. Well then you would use the Mac QuickPWN method. It is important to remember, use this method only if you are not interested in unlocking your iPhone.
No, we have not forgotten about Windows how to guides. You say you have a first generation iPhone that you want Jailbroken and unlocked? This is the guide you would use to get that taken care of right here.
iPhone 3G owners who want to Jailbreak, it is pretty simply – check out this guide and you are good to go.
So there you have it, all of TiPb how to guides updated for 2.2.1.
It is a sad day for our Jailbreak Pirate, so sad that he is even sporting a frown today. Apple has finally, after a full year plus, publicly came out saying that Jailbreaking the iPhone that you paid for is illegal. Does this mean the FBI will be knocking on Rene’s door to lock him up for Jailbreaking publicly over the internet???
[No, I'm Canadian, so all I have to fear is the red surge of the Mounties - Rene]

This past week has not been a good one for Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Reports of the company preparing for a bankruptcy filing have been all over the news. On the bright side of things, uSirius StarPlayr, which allows you to listen to all of your favorite satellite stations streamed directly onto your iPhone, is on the horizon.
It seems the only delay at the moment is the final approval from Apple. Looks like it may be 2-4 more weeks before we see this in the App Store. Some of the features of StarPlayr are:
- Works with iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch
- Edge, 3G, WiFi
- Sirius or XM accounts
- US and Cananda
- Suggested Retail Price $12.99
So with a price tag of $12.99 how many of you are willing to pick this up to carry your favorite channels with you on the go?
Update: Yes, you indeed do need a monthly subscription to Sirius Xm.
Let me start off by saying I’m not usually a fan of any protective skins for any cell phones that are currently on the market. I’ve found that Egrips for iPhone 3G have to sway me in a different direction, however, and I’ve found they can be quite valuable. If you’d like a more confident grip on your iPhone 3G, then Egrips available from The iPhone Blog Store for the price of $14.95, just may be what you are looking for.

September was the last time we saw some malicious attacks on MobileMe subscribers. Well the scammers are at it again, trying to take advantage of Apple’s MobileMe subscribers. A Gizmodo reader claims to have gotten the email shown above.
If you then click the fake “Login” button you will be directed to a website the scammers have set up — to look like Apple’s web site — asking for your credit card information. It is safe to say, delete this email if you happen to find it in your inbox.

So you’ve been on the fence about Jailbreaking recently, maybe this is enough to sway you? Once again, a 3rd party developer has come through for all of us and has delivered a working turn-by-turn GPS solution!
xGPS uses Google Maps and add it’s own real-time navigation readout and a voice. Seriously, how hard could this have been for Google or Apple to add for us? Another nice feature is the ability to download maps ahead of time. So that means even first generation iPhone users can get in on some turn-by-turn action.
So how many of you are going to Jailbreak now? Let us know!
*UPDATE: The newest version with vocalization is expected to be available within the next week. Be sure to check out the xGPS Blog.
The forum community here at TiPb keeps growing in numbers every day! With more and more great threads getting posted it’s been hard to try and keep up. Today on the forums, we have a few more good ones that you should definitely check out!
First thread up was started by Dizzy, Google Sync (Beta). For more information about Google Sync for iPhone be sure to check out Dieter’s post from the other day. I’m sure a lot of Gmail users are happy campers at this point.
Next thread comes to us from a new forum member, fallingsenses, he seems to think a lot of people have the iPhone 2G rather then the 3G. What do you usually see? More 3G’s than 2G’s or vice versa? Be sure to chime in!
This thread is pretty straight forward, Will you renew MobileMe? I know without hesitation I will be giving more money to Apple when the time comes. How about you?
Lastly, I’d like everyone to know about our iPhone Help forum. If you have any questions regarding the iPhone please head into this forum and post your issue or question. There are a so many knowledgeable forum members that are always willing to help you out.
In order to get in on the forum action you must register. It’s a quick painless process which can be done at this link right here.
See you on the forums!
We included this app in our latest Apps for Less post but since Emoji has started to take off with iPhone owners we figured, what the heck… make sure it gets it’s very own post so nobody misses it!
You missed the boat with the Emoji hack from a few weeks back? Well here is yet one other chance to grab those Emoji icons without having to jailbreak. If you updated to firmware 2.2.1 and then decided to try the FrostyPlace you were out of luck. The firmware disabled this neat little trick. This is where Touch Dial Emoji enters and will give you the same 461 Emoji icons available on your iPhone.
In addition to the Emoji icons, Touch Dial Emoji also serves another purpose worth a mention. Users can assign a phone number to the application and it will then dial the assigned number on launch. Nothing too exciting, but we know you’re buying this for the icons…
It is currently on sale for $.99 in the app store and is available in this iTunes link right here.
The number one paid app for the past few weeks has just gone on a limited time sale. iShoot [iTunes Link] can now be purchased for the low price of $1.99. Keep in mind this is a limited time sale, so don’t let this one pass by!
iShoot is an artillery combat game in which tanks blast each other with a wide range of high-powered weapons, from basic shells and cluster bombs to the world-destroying Shiva Bomb. The full version of iShoot includes 25 weapons, photorealistic landscapes, drivable tanks, and more money with which to buy weapons. Read the rest of this entry »
So today I had a bit of a scare. I went to sync my iPhone 3G with my Macbook and noticed when I’d plug in the phone it would say it is syncing while iTunes simply showed nothing — no kind of response whatsoever. Yes, everything is up to date on my Macbook so that was not the problem. After a few reboots of the Macbook and iPhone the same behavior still continued like clockwork.
Next step was to do some research online and send off an email to Rene for some more ideas. To our surprise this seems to be a bigger than we thought with many people seeing the same issue. I decided it could not hurt to give Apple a call about this and as I was on hold I figured I’d try one more time and shockingly it worked. I had to do a double take at my screens but it worked. To make sure it was not a fluke I unplugged everything and rebooted both Macbook and iPhone, still worked!
This issue seems to be completely random and Apple claims to be looking into it. So, if this happens to you, keep trying to sync, chances are you may get lucky. I’d say avoid doing a complete restore to your phone because if it does lock up during the restore you will be left with a empty iPhone. That’s not good.
Hope Apple updates iTunes fast to prevent this from happening to any of our readers. In the meantime, have any of you had this misfortune?
Let us know!
[Thanks to @Rene for the backup!]
