Dying for an external keyboard on your iPhone? Well, you’re in luck! This proof of concept shows that if you’re an electrical engineering genius — or more likely a teenager — you can hack together one of your very own! Engadget says this solution involves Ruby code on a jailbroken iPhone, so it’s definitely not plug n’play (or better yet, Blue Tooth!) so for now only the hardcore need apply.

Anyone want to try it?

Need a Reason to Jailbreak? Backgrounder App is Now Available!

A new application, Backgrounder, is now available for jailbroken phones! This allows you to run official App Store apps in the background. Yes, you can now listen to music while you are in your favorite App Store app!

With Backgrounder, you don’t have to log into a secure shell session. You don’t have to perform black magic. You just press and hold the home key while running any application. After a few seconds, the Backgrounding Enabled pop-up appears. Release the home button and go about your business. Backgrounder automatically returns you to SpringBoard. To quit the background application, re-launch it from SpringBoard, then press and hold Home until the Backgrounding Disabled pop-up appears.

Why Apple has not allowed apps to run in the background is beyond me. At first I thought that maybe the iPhone couldn’t handle a few apps running at the same time so Apple rightfully did not allow it… well after trying this new app, which is only available to jailbreakers via Cydia, it is more than obvious that the iPhone indeed can handle apps running in the background.

So Apple when will you learn if you don’t give us what we want, we eventually just take it…

So are you finally going to jailbreak your phone now? We’ve got step by step instructions up to Jailbreak the iPhone 3G for both Mac OS X and Windows PC users, and for the original iPhone 2G. Jailbreakers UNITE!!! Argh!!!!

CopierciN: Another Attempt at Copy and Paste

Just how badly do you want copy and paste? Here at TiPb we have covered several stories revolving around copy and paste, go ahead and take a look, it may just make your head spin.

Who knows if Apple will ever include copy and paste in a future firmware update… Until that day comes, if it does come, we have to rely on other means.  Namely jailbreaking.  This is where CopierciN comes into play. It is latest attempt to bring us a very simple, yet effective, feature and is now available for jailbreakers via Cydia.

CopierciN is a basic text editor which, hopefully, bring some kind of copy/paste mechanism to iPhone (to jailbroken ones only, unfortunately). It does not add copy/paste functionality directly to other applications but it provides a mechanism to import text from and export text to SMS, Notes, Mail applications (more to come in the future) and files in the filesystem. Clever, isn’t it?

Keep in mind it is a beta application, but if you’ve jailbroken your iPhone, go ahead and give it a try! You can find it in Cydia, under the BigBoss repository, under utilities. Let us know how it works for you.

Warning: Holy Fake Jailbreaking Sites Batman!

Here and TiPb we like to protect our readers from all that is evil. Well today we have a little warning from the Dev Team regarding the fake QuickPwn sites on the internet.

We would just like to point out that that there are lots of fake sites using the QuickPwn name, these muppets don’t know anything special, and they don’t have anything unique. They are vultures that sit on the domain names and plagiarize content and information in the hope that you donate to them, or click the google ads.

As we’ve mentioned before we don’t accept donations and we certainly don’t allow ads on our site, anyone who asks for donations in our name is lying, end of story.

There have been a few readers lately inquiring about unlocking of the iPhone 3G. Lets put all these rumors to rest right now. There is currently NO software unlock for the iPhone 3G. The only way possible (which I would not recommend even to my worst enemy), is a SIM unlock. For more information regarding the dangers of those please head to our forums.

If it’s not on the Dev Teams official web site, please think twice about downloading it and using it.
