Tip o’ the Week: Old iPhone Useless?

The iPhone 3G is SOOOOO close, I can practically taste the doubled speed, GPS and iPhone 2.0-and-web apps sweetness!  It’s hard to believe that it’s already been over a year since I held the object of my obsession (a.k.a. iPhone 2G) for the first time in the Apple Store.  Now, my still-gleaming 2G is about to become a has-been.  Will it be worth the box it was shipped in after July 11?  Read on for this week’s Tip, the possible future of YOUR “old” iPhone!

Tip o’ the Week: Tasks on iPhone!

Although the current iPhone does many things, it does fall short in some glaring ways.  Managing tasks, for example, has been discussed both in forums and in TiPB podcasts.  Perhaps Apple refuses to provide a means of managing tasks because they believe an iPhone user will have little time left for anything else in life other than surfing the web on Safari, watching movies and listening to tunes in iPod, Google Mapping, etc.?  Speculation for this exclusion may abound, but fortunately, we’ve got you covered with this week’s Tip.

If you haven’t been checking out the new Web Apps lately, then you may have missed a little gem called Getting Tasks Done!, available here!  Read more about managing your tasks on the iPhone following the break!

Tip o’ the Week - iPhone on Mars?!

Is there an iPhone on Mars?  No, not exactly.  Nor have we found little green men on Mars, either.  Although if we did, would they be toting iPhone 3Gs?  If it were up to Jobs they would (how ’bout a game of Interstellar Risk, Rene?).  Unless you’ve been living in a cave (a la Bin Laden), you’ve likely heard of NASA’s recent success landing the Phoenix Mars lander.  The lander is equipped with shovel and soil analysis equipment to seek out ice, water, life, etc.

Even though iPhones aren’t on Mars (yet!), you can use your iPhone to get the latest news and mission status of the Phoenix Mars lander.  Toughturtle.com,  a developer of several other iPhone web apps, has given to us the Phoenix Mars Mission web app for the iPhone.  Keep reading to learn more about this week’s Tip! Tip o’ the Week: It’s About Time!

Time.  There’s never enough of it, we’re always running out of it, we can’t make more of it, and we spend loads of cash on devices to help us manage it.  How often do you use your iPhone to help you manage your time better?  Sure, there’s a calendar.  But what about the Clock app?  How often do you use it to set alarms?  What about the stopwatch — only good for timing your running or swimming laps?

Speaking of time — it’s time for this week’s Tip, so take a little of your time now and read on about using your iPhone Clock!

Tip o’ the Week: Wii Cheats!

Hold +, and press Right, Right, Left, Left, 2, 2.  Do this quickly.  Oh, and by the way, do this at the “Chapter Select” screen.  Sounds simple enough, right?  What does this mean, anyway?  A new dance step?  Marching orders?  Or a way to unleash your weapons mojo playing Call of Duty 3 on your Wii?  You may not be able to hook up your iPhone to your Wii and use the accelerometer (yet), but your iPhone + a handy web app may make your Wii experience more lively (and give you the power to beat your kid’s high score).  Press Right, Right, then click Left on your mouse button to read on!

Tip o’ the Week: IMDb, iPhone Style.

How many times has Elizabeth Taylor been married?  Where was Planet of the Apes filmed?  Is Harrison Ford really turning 66 this year?  Indy is a senior citizen??  These are the kinds of questions (and more) that can be answered using the Internet Movie Database (IMDb.com).  If there is something you want to know about your favorite actor, movie, director, character, etc., the IMDb is a great place to find it.  Now, courtesy of Nolan Brown, we have Mobile IMDb for the iPhone and this week’s Tip!  Please read on! Tip o’ the Week: Floort - Where Opinions Count!

One huge benefit of the iPhone’s superb web browser are all the web applications that have sprouted up since the iPhone’s release.  Just like in Field of Dreams, if you build it, they (developers) will come.  Among the plethora of web apps available, several social networking sites have popped up and this week’s Tip is about a unique angle on this genre.  Floort at Floort.com is a site that boasts “We know what you’re thinking”, and as a matter of fact, they DO!  Read on for this week’s Tip and how you can give someone else (or even the world) a piece of your mind!

Tip o’ the Week: iPhone an iWallet?

Can your iPhone be an electronic wallet?  Maybe you are one of THOSE people that carries a massive, 2-inch-thick wallet stuffed with numerous credit cards, membership cards, fast-food punch cards, license, insurance card, etc.  What if you could carry your iPhone instead of your wallet?  Read this week’s Tip to find out how!

More and more people are switching to the iPhone. They’re switching from Palm and Windows Mobile and even Blackberry (looking at you, Barack Obama!) smartphones to the iPhone. They’re switching carriers to get the iPhone. They’re switching off the carrier-locks just to be able to switch to the iPhone in their own, currently unsupported countries. And now that the next-gen iPhone 3G is all but upon us, and more and more regions are announcing deals to offer it, the switching is only going to get faster and more furious.

To celebrate the switchers, those who dare to phone different, the iPhone Blog wants to help you get your content off your old, perhaps restrictive and outdates systems, and onto iTunes, ready to sync to your new iPhone.
