If you are not familiar with our Apps for Less posts, they are a great way for us to point out a few good iPhone (and iPod touch) applications available in the App Store that are currently on sale, or ones that have come down permanently to a price that we feel are worth mentioning to our readers.

Today we have some good news for all of you Konami fans out there. Konami has announced that every single game in the iPhone catalog is on sale for $.99 until November 30th. The titles are as follows:

• Silent Scope – Players will fight to save the President and the First Family from terrorists by using their marksmanship skills in this fast-paced rail shooter.
• Krazy Kart Racing – Pick one of ten classic Konami heroes and speed across 16 themed racing circuits in this 3D cartoon styled racer.
• DanceDanceRevolution S – In this addictive music rhythm game, choose from up to three gameplay modes with 26 songs and 18 playable characters.
• DanceDanceRevolution S+ – Groove in classic DDR style, but with an added bonus of being able to download new tunes to tap to on the go.
• Power Pros Touch – Experience the crowd cheers, fight songs and over 120 variations of play-by-play baseball commentary as players chose from 25 to 162 game seasons.

It’s big, sure, but most of it is tucked behind your ear, and the boom mic provides for great sound, and — yup — a look straight out of Sci-Fi (or maybe SWAT).

• XGear Stylus is a hard case with a unique, ribbed design. No slip = win. It comes with mirror films and a microfiber cleaning cloth. Also red, white, and black.
• Motorola H17 Bluetooth Headset. I love it because it’s tiny, charges lightning quick, has great sound quality on the listening end because of Moto’s Crystal Talk Technology, has great sound quality on the sound end because of the dual-microphone design. Most of all, though, I love it because of the flip out boom that turns the headset OFF when I’m not using it.

Chad’s Picks

• Smartphone Experts SidePouch. If a side pouch is your thing (like it is me) you will like the style and value of the Smartphone Experts Side Pouch for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Light and durable, this is a great addtion to your case collection; not to mention there is a color-combo to suit your liking!
• Blueant S1 Sun Visor Bluetooth Car Kit with Multipoint. If you have been in the market for a hands-free solution for your iPhone and car, this is it! I love this bluetooth speaker. It works great with the iPhone 3GS Voice Control and sounds great.

Chris’ Pick

Incipio SILICRYLIC Silicone Crystal Case has to be my favorite accessory. I have dropped the iPhone a few times, and the case has saved it. Well worth the money, and it looks pretty good as well.

James’ Picks

• mophie Juice Pack air. A few months ago, this was my Pick of the Week. It is still the case I use. Like most iPhone owners, I chew through the battery very quickly. With all of the apps, data, music and video available to me, I seem to always be needing a fresh charge. The Mophie Juice Pack Air is exactly the case I have needed. It does not add too much thickness or heaviness to my iPhone 3GS and holds a full charge when I need it. I have recommended it to family and friends and all who have purchased will echo my sentiments. A must buy for the heavy user!
• Plantronics Discovery 925 Bluetooth Headset. I have tried many bluetooth headsets over the years and have found one nagging issue. No, it’s not sound quality. Rather, I have not found a headset that will stay in my ear without using an over-the-ear clip. The Platronics Discovery 925 is the first headset that I have tried taht will fit in my ear without any other assistance. Also, the sound quality is great and I have not had any complaints on my voice quality.

• Marware C.E.O. Premiere has the classic horizontal holster case design that covers your iPhone in a textured, soft leather with quality stitching and an ultra-slim non-removable belt clip. The interior of the case is made up of microfiber cloth which is a welcomed addition that promises not to scratch your device while it is in use. Also it’s doubling as my Droid case.
• Blueant Q1 Voice Controlled Bluetooth Headset is an excellent, top quality headset that should not be passed up if you are in the market for a top of the line piece of technology. Buy it now!

Leanna’s Pick

iSkin Solo FX. For a case that’s both fashionable and of high quality, look no further than the iSkin Solo FX. I use this case regularly for it’s looks and protection. It has a snug fit yet doesn’t scratch my precious iPhone, feels great in my hand, and looks amazing! One of these days I will own all 4 colors

Matt’s Pick

Otterbox Defender is absolutely my favorite case, no doubt the best that I have come across! While this case is a bit more expensive than other iPhone cases, it is definitely worth it. The case nearly seals your iPhone within itself, leaving open only the necessary holes to allow speaker usage. I have put this case through quite a bit, from dropping it off the side of a cliff into sand, to spilling coke on it, to dropping it more than anyone should consider healthy for an iPhone and, still, it has defended it. If you have had issues with keeping an iPhone okay then this is probably the case for you.

Chris’ Pick: iMac (Late 2009)

My pick of the week is the new iMac. We just got one for my wife, and the added functionality combined with the iPhone is great. Adding in the MobileMe account, my wife is ecstatic with the iMac/iPhone combo, and I have to admit I am more than a little jealous. [$1,999.00+ - Web link]

James’ Pick: AppleTV 3.0

When Apple announced the iTunes LP and movies extras, I hoped the functionality would be rolled out to AppleTV and the iPhone. With AppleTV 3.0, it has. The previous 2.0 OS was getting a little long in the tooth, so having a fresh UI and some new features has breathed some new life in Apple’s “hobby”.

Leanna’s Pick: Touch Pets Dogs

Touch Pets Dogs is absolutely adorable and my new addiction. The idea behind this game is that you have one or more virtual puppies that you must take care of by feeding, playing, training, etc. Touch Pets Dogs is very creatively made and your puppies respond great to your gestures. Want to pet your puppy? No problem, just rub your finger on his little body and he’ll respond by pushing his neck toward you just like a real dog would. This game has a similar feel to The Sims in that your puppies have various attributes you must keep up or else your puppy will get sad. Touch Pets Dogs also runs live, so if you go too long without playing with your puppy, you will receive a push notification telling you that you have a sad puppy! Touch Pets Dogs also uses the Plus+ network to meet other puppies, go on play dates, and possibly find a love interest for you puppy! If you pick this one up, look up llofte and meet my puppies! Matt’s Pick: Trip Cubby

I recently began a new job for a production company and found myself driving all over Texas for commercial shoots. I soon realized that I needed an app to keep track of my trips. While I sifted through several apps, I finally came across Trip Cubby and haven’t looked back. Trip Cubby has a nice and easy workflow for entering data. It remembers recent locations, your last mileage entry, displays graphs, exports as CSV attachment and even has an online sync. If you are one of those people that need to keep track of mileage for deduction reasons, then this app is for you! [$6.99 - iTunes link]

Rene’s Pick: Astonishing X-Men Motion Comic

Joss Whedon didn’t bring his A game to Dollhouse, not the way he did with Buffy, Angel, or Firefly. For Astonishing X-Men, assisted by the amazing art of John Cassaday and the gorgeous (and uncredited!) colors of Laura Martin, he brought the A+. It was simply the best X-Men I’ve read since the original Phoenix Saga (yes, I’m that old). If you didn’t catch the comics, trades, or omnibus, Neil Adams’ company and Marvel Studios have brought it — at least the first chapter of it, Gifted — to Motion Comics life. 2 episodes of 6 are available now. I am biased, this is without a doubt, my favorite iPhone racing game. If you like simulation-style handling in your racing games, you will love this game. There are no real cars (other than the Volkswagon GTI) or courses. However, the attention to detail in-car and on the track is the best you will see on the iPhone. Asphalt 5

Looking for a deep arcade racer on the iPhone? Look no further than Asphalt 5! There are plenty of “real” cars to choose from and lots of tracks. You can earn the ability to customize the look of your car too. The action is fast and pure arcade. The graphics have a “glow” to them, literally but are still good. Looking for an adrenalin rush, this is it! [$6.99 - iTunes Link]

Rally Master Pro 3D

If you like the challenge of rally racing, then this is the only rally game to get in the app store! Plenty of cars and over 27 varied tracks! The controls seemed a little sluggish to be using the accelerometer, but I got used to them. Your car takes real-world damage as you drive (in one instance my hood flew off!) and you can repair your car in-between races. The weather simulation is great in the game too; rain and snow, and a voice navigator, it’s all there! [$4.99 - iTunes Link]

Need for Speed Undercover

NFSU was one of the first games to have “next-gen”graphics on the iPhone. These graphics still hold true today! There are some fun innovations to like a slo-mo bullet time and auto-acceleration. You have some nice customization features for your car from spoilers to ground effects, not to mention color and vinyl. There is also a storyline to keep things interesting! $4.99 – [iTunes Link]

2XL ATV Offroad

Looking for something different? ATV Offroad might be for you! smooth framerate and killer graphics make this one a keeper! The standout feature in this racing game is the ability to do tricks and achievements! Tricks can be done by tilting the device forward and backward while combining 6 preset stunt moves accessible on the screen. Couple this with some local Wi-Fi multiplayer and let the good times role! Conclusion

All of these game are great and well worth the price of admission. However, for what it has to offer, I have to go with Real Racing as my winner this year. I prefer the “real” style of racing. Though, it is not Gran Turismo, for a mobile game it is close enough for me. If this game was not available, second place would go to Asphalt 5. NFSU is close, but Asphalt ups the anti with its Burnout-like gameplay.

You can check out standings, team stats, player stats, and get updated scores and data every minute for all of your favorite teams. Sure there are a ton of other apps available that can do the same but not many of them send game update push notifications directly to your device. MLB, NFL, and NCAA Football. NHL, NBA, and NCAA Basketball are current sports that you can have alerts for. There are a few others sports apps that support push notifications but none of them pushed more timely than Sportstap. So if you like updates in real time, this is the way to go.

This week I am picking the Bento app from FileMaker. There are several apps out there that can keep track of passwords and other data. What is nice about Bento is that you can make these databases yourself! You can edit fields, make lists and choose data types. If you own Bento for Mac, you can sync the data between apps! Chris’ Pick: Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs is a fun, quick paced pseudo-shooting game (for some reason it reminds me of Space Invaders). In the game, you try to keep your sleeper asleep by shooting the various monsters that try to wake him up. Different monsters have different weaknesses (when you can “shoot” them, for example). Succeed and your sleeper gets a good night sleep. [$1.99 - iTunes link]

Jeremy’s Pick: The North Face Snow Report

Snowboard/Ski season is fast approaching so my pick is the Snow Report. It’s free and you get a slick user interface, detailed information on any resort you select, trail maps, built in Twitter support, etc… Nifty little app that anyone interested in skiing or snowboarding should pick up.[$Free - iTunes link]

Matt’s Pick: RedLaser

RedLaser is created by Occipital, which has that nifty barcode scanning technology (used in foodscanner as well.) The application scans barcodes with ease and has recently come to my aid in purchasing books. After it scans, it pulls up results from Amazon, Google and other locations, letting you know where the cheapest place to purchase is. If you’re one of those people that like to compare prices while at the store, this might just be the perfect app for you! [$1.99 - iTunes link]

Rene’s Pick: Canabalt

Canabalt is a highly simplified, highly stylized — indeed pixelized — game where you race across rooftops, jump over obstacles, leap between buildings, crash through windows, avoid bombs and collapsing construction, and otherwise do everything you can just to keep running. If you hit something you slow down, if you don’t, you speed up, and if you mistime a jump, you fall, crash or get vaporized and the game is over. How far can you run? [$1.99 - iTunes link]

I am trying to find the perfect Risk-style game, and am currently trying out Vconqr. It has a nice interface, easy to play and simple graphics. It doesn’t have some of the customization options of the other games, but it is great for just a quick game of Ris….er, Vconqr. Until they actually come out with Risk, this is a good compromise. James’ Pick: ESPN Radio

I am a sports junkie. I can’t get enough of my Chicago teams. Anywhere I go, I usually listen to espnradio1000.com. Unfortunately for me, my work VPN blocks the radio stream. Now I can listen to ESPN no matter where I am. For fans of other cities, the app has streams of the main radio and other cities such as New York and Dallas. [$2.99 - iTunes link]

Jeremy’s Pick: South Park Mega Millionaire

South Park Mega Millionaire let’s you help Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny as they skate their way through a series of challenges. Any true fan of South will appreciate this game a lot more than the previous attempt of South Park Imagination Land. [$2.99 - iTunes link]

Josh’s Pick: Tap Tap Revenge Classic

Basically it’s like guitar hero or rockband on the iPhone. I play it every day, like a bad addiction – lol! 100s of songs to play, it never gets old with even classic hits such as Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama from Lynard Skynard. [$0.99 - iTunes link]

Leanna’s Pick: Twitbit 2.0

There are still only a handful of Twitter applications that offer push notification and with Twitbit’s new update, Twitbit 2.0 is the by far the best one. It has a clean UI, isn’t lacking in important features, and mentions and direct messages are quickly pushed with less than a 2 minute delay. I have a bit of a Twitter app addiction, but Twitbit is the only one that lives on my home page. [$2.99 - iTunes link]

Matt’s Pick: Photoshop.com Mobile

I was begining to wonder when Adobe might hop on the iPhone app creation boat… This application allows you to edit your photos – from croping them to adding special effects to your photos. The application is quite powerful and incredibly easy to use. Ramp Champ is co-developed by Iconfactory, so you know it’s pixel perfect. A skee-ball type casual, fun, time passer it’s perfect for the iPhone. Thanks to in-app purchase you can buy more ramps when — make that if — you get through the 4 for so that come with the app. I say if because, while the first challenge is easy, the second is hard, and I think I’ll need an Ambrose Chase-style description field to get through the third. First topic up for today, App Store Genius and how is it working for you? Rene doesn’t seem to be having the best of luck with his Genius, for me it started out pretty so-so but it seems the more I delete the more accurate it seems to get. Perhaps my mind is playing tricks on me, how is it working for you?

iPhone OS 3.1.2 was released yesterday and we are assuming most of you jumped right in and updated your phones. Cdudek was wondering, how is your battery life on the 3.1.2 software? Anyone notice a significant change for the better or for the worse? Check the thread out to see results from other forum members and while you are there, post your own.

This next thread for today comes to us from naviwilliams and he offers up a question that we hear quite often – do you leave Wi-Fi on or off? It is a fact that using Wi-Fi over 3G will save you a decent amount of battery life so I have a tendency to leave it on since Wi-Fi is available to me at work and at home. How about you?

Chad’s Pick: Blades of Fury

If there is one game genre the iPhone is lacking in it has to be fighting games. Well, the wait is over folks, Blades of Fury is one awesome game. The best way to think of it is an amazing port of Soul Calibur; this game is really that good. The touch controls work surprisingly well and you can even play you own iPod music. What is it missing? Online multiplayer, but then again, so are many games If you like fighting games, especially using the weapons-based Soul Calibur fighting mechanic, you will love Blades of Fury! Chris’ Pick: PwnageTool 3.1.3.

For people who have a iPhone 3Gs (like me), who has been waiting for jailbreak (like me), this is great news. While there is a PC version (yet? opinion seems to be varied as to their intent, or lack of intent, to release a new PC version of redsn0w), this is still a great step forward for those of us who have patiently been waiting for a jailbreak of 3.1. Matt’s Pick: Mailbox Find

Mailbox Find is an app that tells you were the closest mailbox for either USPS (or post offices), FedEx or even UPS. With my most recent job, I was asked to drop a letter in the mailbox. Not knowing the area real well, I was able to open the app and it gave me some of the closest mail boxes in the area. It kept me from spending too much time hunting for a mailbox in the area (or driving across the city to go to the one I actually knew of. Rene’s Pick: RedLaser

So I go to the book store with a friend, who sees many cute and wonderful and engaging books, and I see the full retail price quickly adding up in my brain like one of those old fashioned whirling cash registers. Luckily I had RedLaser’s barcode scanner and product finder on my iPhone, so I whipped it out, scanned away, and proceeded to add the books up in Amazon for quite a bit less. My friend saw how much less the total was, dumped the books back on the shelves, and everyone was happy (except for the book store, no doubt). Bottom line, I’ve been waiting for this on the iPhone ever since I saw the Android G1 show it off almost a year ago. And it works great. [$1.99 - iTunes link]
