Feeling a bit retro lately? Well look no further than these two great games from the 1980’s that are currently on sale in the App Store – Konami’s 1981 arcade hit Frogger and Namco’s 1982 arcade racer Pole Position.
Frogger is now on sale for $1.99. [iTunes Link]
The arcade hit is back and on your iPhone/iPod touch. Help Frogger cross the busy obstacles guiding him home. Jump past cars on the road and hitch a ride on logs and turtles while crossing the river. Perils await a careless frog and not all turtles are helpful. Guide 5 frogs to safety and move to the next level.
Pole Position is available for a limited time for $2.99. [iTunes Link]
Race to the finish line in this enhanced and upgraded version of Namco’s classic arcade racer, Pole Position: Remix, specially tuned for the iPhone! Take to the road with three different intuitive control setups for drivers of all types! Tilt the iPhone to maneuver your car through challenging high speed race tracks in Tilt Steering Mode. Take control of the on-screen steering wheel and spin it to fly through harrowing hairpin turns. Or touch the slider mechanism to avoid hitting cars, billboards and obstacles! Points are awarded for the distance you travel and for each enemy car you pass. Blow by the competition to unlock additional tracks, cars, billboards and graphical themes based on Namco hit games.
Two great retro classics at low prices that you can take advantage of. If you happen to have an application in the App Store that is on sale and want everyone to know about it, feel free to contact us and let us know!

Every week a few of us from team TiPb, bloggers and forum crew alike, will bring you our current favorite, funnest, most useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone (or iPod touch) related, they’re fair game.
So who’s on deck this week and what are our picks? Find out after the break!

Welcome to From the Forums. If you are curious as to what all of the hot topics are on the TiPb forums, this is the place to be. In order to create any new threads of your own or reply to any of the following threads, you must be a registered member. Becoming a member is a simple process that will only take a few minutes out of your day, so if you haven’t already, head on over and register now.
The first thread comes to us from jaguar11 and he wants to know how many push applications do you currently have on your iPhone? Sure the availability of push notification enabled applications was pretty slow at first but a lot of developers are finally coming around. Hopefully that is a good sign of things to come.
Next up we have a great poll thread from toomanyphones – what iPhone GPS application are you using? It seems like the GPS application market has exploded the past few months as so many developers took advantage of TomTom getting to the party late. So what is your GPS app of choice?
This thread was started by yours truly – what native iPhone application or feature do you use the least? Is copy and paste all it was cracked up to be? How about the landscape keyboard? The possibilities are endless, let us know what you are thinking…
Last but not least, smileyboy started a poll thread that poses the question, what’s your monthly data usage? Are you someone who barely uses data with your iPhone or are you making sure you get your money’s worth for the high prices the carriers are charging?
See you on the forums!

With news of TomTom hitting Apple’s App Store it’s time to start looking out for great deals from the other GPS apps currently available. Today we were notified that one of the most feature-filled GPS apps, Sygic Mobile Maps for the US is on sale for a limited time and it’s priced to sell – $39.99. [iTunes Link]
We’ve used Sygic Mobile Maps and it is well worth $39.99 if you are within the United States. The sale ends at the end of this month so be sure to act fast! It contains some very nice features with some of the highlights as followed:
- Voice guided turn-by-turn GPS navigation
- Rotation sensor for automatic switching between landscape/portrait operation in real-time
- Automatic return to the app and the route after a phone call
- All important safety features, including lane assistance, speed limit indication, safety cameras, information about railway crossings and dangerous areas
- Thousands of POIs; among others also a list of parking options nearby for you to select and be guided to
selection between car and bicycle modes for optimum route calculation
- All the maps will be stored on the device, there will be no need to download data on the go, which otherwise costs unnecessary waiting time and money

Apps for Less is Jeremy’s turf, but we just got a few extra, time-sensitive tips we wanted to share with you for the weekend, so please bear with my less than Bad Ash fill-in attempt.
First up is ConvertBot [iTunes link], which is now totally FREE for a limited time.
Next up, ID software has a sale going in honor of QuakeCon 2009, discounting Doom Resurrection [iTunes link] to $2.99 and Wolfenstein Classic [iTunes link] to $0.99 from now until Sunday. (Thanks Pete for the head’s up!)
If you see any other great weekend deals, let us know in the comments, or send them Jeremy’s way any time for inclusion in a future Apps for Less!

The first thread for today was created by anjo and he wants to know – will Apple release a new iPhone in 2010? Now while some of us may already know the answer to this question, this thread has turned into a very detailed account on what exactly what you the consumers are looking for in the next generation of iPhone. Apple are you listening?
Next we have an excellent new poll thread that was just started by our very own forum reviewer, cjvitek – Do you use a bluetooth headset? Swing by this thread and let Chris know how you feel about bluetooth headsets in general and if you do use them, share with everyone which headset you prefer and why.
Here we have a thread from iPheuria and he poses the question regarding your data usage and do you really need carrier supplied data on your iPhone? Most of us here at TiPb feel that a good data connection is necessary to get the full potential out of Apple’s iPhone but what do you think?
So you are having an issue with your iPhone and need some help? Perhaps you have some time to kill and feel like helping others with their iPhone issues? If you answered yes to either of these questions then please stop by and visit our dedicated iPhone Help forum.
See you on the forums!

For those of you who are not familiar with our Apps for Less posts, they are a great way for us to point out a few good iPhone (and iPod touch) applications available in the App Store that are currently on sale, or ones that have come down to a price permanently that we feel are worth mentioning to our readers.
Today’s first application happens to be one of my personal favorites – Pocket Tunes Radio. [iTunes Link] Not only does it have a ton of free internet radio stations you also get the ability to stream Sirius XM channels. And most of the channels that were omitted from the official Sirius XM application are actually available with Pocket Tunes Radio! Howard Stern anyone? Pocket Tunes Radio is now available for a limited time for $7.99 – $2 off it’s regular price.
Next up we have a pair of retro games many of you old school gamers should enjoy. Namco’s Galaga REMIX [iTunes Link] and Dig Dug REMIX [iTunes Link] are now on sale for $2.99 a piece! Namco has added a nice twist to two great classic games – the ability to play both the original arcade games and new remixed versions with new boss battles, power-up items, etc…
Last up for today we have another great iPhone game, ngmoco’s Star Defense [iTunes Link] has dropped permanently to a low $2.99! This is one game that has been covered here at TiPb more than once, so be sure to check it out.
So there you have it, three great applications at low prices that hopefully some of you will take advantage of. If you happen to have an application in the App Store that is on sale and want everyone to know about it, feel free to contact us and let us know!
