From the Forums: iPhone Typos? Updating Your iPhone? MobileMe 2.0? Customer Service Nightmares?

From the Forums

It’s that time again — time for us to pick out some of the hot topics on TiPb’s forums. In order for you to reply to any of the following threads please be sure to register. It’s a painless process, we promise!

Today’s first thread is from forum member Ghecko. There is no arguing that, if you’re coming from a physical keyboard on your old BlackBerry or Windows Mobile device, the touch screen on the iPhone can be a bit tricky for some and chances are you will end up with a lot of typos in your SMS messages and emails. With that being said, what are your most common typos you make on your iPhone? If you are indeed having a hard time adjusting to the touch screen – stick with it. You’ll be a pro in no time!

This next thread is a question that I actually hear quite a bit when new software or firmware is released for devices – Tramain wants to know will you update to iPhone OS 3.0 as soon as it is released or will you wait to see how it goes for others? Personally, as soon as new software is available to me, I will not hesitate to update but I can understand how some people may want to wait a few days to see if any users are running into any major errors. So waiting is not always a bad idea. Thoughts?

Next up we have a thread started by none other than our very own beloved editor, Rene, and he wants to know your thoughts about MobileMe 2.0 at WWDC. Will we see Phil Schiller drop some awesome new MobileMe features during the keynote? Only time will really tell but we all can dream can’t we?

Our last thread of the day is simple – tell us your worst customer service experience you’ve had with Apple, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc… Almost every single one of us has had our fair share of horrible customer service experiences, let us know about them!

See you on the forums!

Apps for Less: Assassin’s Creed, Siberian Strike, Convertbot

In today’s Apps For Less we found a few very worthy deals that you should definitely take advantage of.

First up we have a gem of a game from Gameloft — you might have heard it? — Assassin’s Creed – Altaïr’s Chronicles [iTunes Link]. You should know that it is one to pick up, especially at it’s new low price of $5.99 (down from $9.99!) Not a bad deal at all.

The fate of the Holy Land depends on you… Plunge into this direct prequel to the critically acclaimed game title, Assassin’s Creed™, offering rich gameplay and a well-balanced mix of stealth, chaotic action, and riddle-solving exploration in the midst of fully 3D-rendered historical environments of the Crusades’ Middle East

This next game also comes to us from Gameloft, Siberian Strike. [iTunes Link] You can now pick this one up for $.99! Great deal for an action packed, quality game!

Renewing the retro genre, Siberian Strike offers tons of enemies to destroy in many different ways thanks to the wild array of dangerous weapons at your disposal. Explosive missions make this game one of a kind with gameplay mixing shooting and riveting piloting assignments. Made for shoot’em up fans and casual players thanks to intuitive gameplay that makes it fun and within reach for everyone.

Last but not least we have an application that is actually not a game! The unit conversion app, Convertbot, [iTunes Link] is now on sale for a very limited time for the low price of $.99!

Convert currency, length, mass, time and much more in an exciting new way! Converting numbers will never again be a mundane task. In addition to its innovative interface, our robot is smart enough to convert to and from mixed units. Are you 5 foot 9 inches tall? Other converters require you to convert that to 5.75 ft in your head before being able to enter it. Convertbot allows mixed units like Foot + Inches, Pounds + Ounces, and more!

If you are a developer and are planning on a sale for your application feel free to contact us to be included in the next Apps for Less!

From the Forums: iPhone on Verizon Soon? Bored of Your iPhone? WWDC and New iPhone?

From the Forums

Once again it is time for another From the Forums. A weekly post in which TiPb takes some of the many good threads from our forums to put into the spotlight. To join in on the forum action be sure to register, it’s a painless process – we promise.

If you are like me, you are sick and tired of hearing rumors about an iPhone coming to Verizon. Well here is yet another rumor that started in the Crackberry forums that has now found it’s way onto our forums thanks to Duvi – iPhone on Verizon Soon? Now I can’t speak for everyone here at TiPb but I can honestly say I do not see this happening anytime in the near future. Thoughts?

This next thread started by KaiZeRKhan, is actually a question that I get asked quite a bit – Do you ever get bored of your iPhone? I’ve had a ton of phones along with my iPhone and the reason the others always end up sold is that I get bored with them, not the iPhone. How about you?

The last thread for today is one that has been spotlighted here before. We figured with WWDC approaching fast why not toss it in one more time – Will Apple reveal the new iPhone at WWDC? Did I mention this one has a poll and so far it’s 38-14 in favor of yes, we will see the new iPhone introduced at WWDC.

See you on the forums!

From the Forums: Next Gen iPhone Debut at WWDC?, iPhones Best Feature, Still on a Non-iPhone Plan?, Your Previous Phone, App Annoucements

Now that the dust is starting to settle from all of TiPb’s Birthday Bash giveaways, it’s time for another From the Forums post. For those of you who are new to TiPb this is simply a way for us to point out some of the more popular threads in our forums so that you can join in on the conversation. Before you can reply to any of the following threads you will have to register. It’s free, simple, and will only take a few moments of your time.

With the official news that Phil Schiller will be taking the stage at the WWDC keynote the big question in the forums is, will the next generation of iPhone be announced during this event? TiPb thinks so but what do you think?

This next thread comes to us from forum member mike_kircher, and he asks for opinions on what you think is the best feature available on the iPhone. The possibilities are endless, especially now with iPhone OS 3.0. Landscape keyboard, MMS — yes, we all know most common phones have this feature — Safari, true threaded SMS, etc… So jump in and let Mike know what you think!

There still seems to be people out there, generally using first generation iPhones, that are flying under the radar with non-iPhone data plans. If you haven’t been caught yet by AT&T there is a pretty good chance things will be changing sooner rather than later. Sensitown just purchased an iPhone off of craigslist and is currently on a $10/month data plan and is curious, will AT&T automatically switch it to the correct plan?

This thread was started a while back by SM12 and it is as straight forward as they come, what phone did you have previously to your iPhone? Like I said, this is a old thread but with so many new members hitting the forums it’s interesting to see exactly what devices others have used in the past.

Last but not least, TiPb would like to introduce you to it’s latest forum – iPhone App Annoucments. This forum has been created specifically for all of the developers out there to spread the word on their latest and greatest applications. So swing by, take a look around and let the developers know how much you like, or dislike their application.

See you on the forums!

Apps for Less: Terminator Salvation and PCalc for iPhone

Ok, not many applications currently in the App Store worthy of our Apps for Less. Although, the ones we did end up finding are not bad deals.

First up we have Terminator Salvation [iTunes Link], if you have not checked out the trailer we post two weeks ago what are you waiting for? This is one of the top games in the App Store and it seems like Gameloft has gotten the hang of programming games for the iPhones hardware. The best thing about this game now is it’s price – it has dropped from $9.99 to $5.99. People complained about the higher price and Gameloft has listened. I feel bad for the early adapters as we always get the short end of the stick in terms of price but that’s to be expected.

Next up we have PCalc [iTunes Link], now on sale for $4.99 An excellent app for anyone who needs a feature-rich calculator that the stock app on the iPhone simply can not match. Features are as follows:

  • Switchable button layouts – choose from many different horizontal and vertical layouts to suit your needs.
  • Calculator themes – pick your look, all the way from minimalist to striking.
  • An RPN mode with one button access to the stack and optional two-line display.
  • Hexadecimal, octal and binary modes, complete with a variety of bitwise operators.
  • All the extensive unit conversions and constants from the desktop PCalc.
  • A simulated paper tape to keep track of your calculations.
  • Multiple undo and redo. Just flick the LCD to the right and left to reveal the past and future.
  • Stylish, consistent user interface.
  • Shake to clear! Two shakes to clear, three shakes to clear all.

If you are a developer and have a great app in the App Store at a great price, we want to hear about it!
