From the Forums: iPhone 3.0 OS Features Left Out?, iPhone Re-Design, AppleCare, Give Away: XBMC Streamer

The past 2 weeks have been pretty exciting in terms of iPhone news/rumors and to be honest, even I have neglected our forums. So today it’s time I get back to my roots. Lets begin!

The first thread today has to do with the iPhone 3.0 OS. Apple has given us all the features that most of us have asked for but what features did they leave out that you would have loved to see included?

This next thread, started by John T, is one that everyone should chime in on. John feels that in order to stay competitive Apple needs to re-design the iPhone and give its exterior a nice fresh overhaul. So what do you think, does Apple need to make significant exterior hardware changes? If so, what direction would you like them to go?

This thread was started by a Crackberry forum regular, CrunchDude. It’s a pretty straight forward, how good is AppleCare and is it worth it? Be sure to drop by the thread and let him know some of your experiences with AppleCare. Good or bad.

Last but not least, we have another TiPb Give Away. The premise this time is simple, tell us the most embarrassing song in your music collection for your chance to win one of three promo codes for XBMC Streamer! For more details about XBMC Streamer be sure to hit this link!

So there you have it, a few good threads worth checking out. Now in order to join in on the conversation, be sure to register. You won’t regret it!

See you on the forums!

From the Forums: Landscape Keyboard, Favorite iPhone 3.0 Feature, Beejive IM Giveaway, iPhone Developer Forum

Now that the dust has settled and we now know what to expect “this summer” from iPhone 3.0, it’s only natural to include some more iPhone 3.0 madness in the forums.

Our first thread comes to us from Casper TFG, now that landscape in all apps has been announced will you actually use it? I have tried using the landscape keyboard with email and SMS and I’ve gotten so used to portrait mode that it will take some time, for me personally, to get used to landscape. It’s almost easier to simply use portrait at this point. Nonetheless, it’s a nice feature that many of you will enjoy.

Next up we have a thread that was started by yours truly and it is pretty straight forward, what is your favorite iPhone 3.0 feature? With over a 100 new features added, some more obvious than others, you can only choose one, so choose wisely. MMS? Cut/Copy/Paste perhaps? Let us know what you think!

This next thread was started by Rene and shockingly it is not 3.0 related! You all have a chance to win 1 of 2 free promo codes for a great piece of software, Beejive IM. If you want your chance to grab one, simply reply in the thread. Tomorrow, Monday March 23rd, we’ll pick two lucky winners randomly! Good luck!

Finally, I’d like to mention our iPhone Developer Forum. This is a great place for anyone developing for the iPhone or running iPhone 3.0 software. Come in and compare notes, share interesting features you may or may not have found, share the bugs you have come across, etc… This is not the place to ask for activation codes or for the actual firmware file so please don’t ask.

If you want to get in on the conversation be sure to register first. It’s a quick and painless process so what are you waiting for!?

See you on the forums!

From the Forums: iPhone 3.0 Edition

Well now we all know what to expect with iPhone 3.0… Rene has even been so kind to lay out a complete feature list for all of you to enjoy.

Is iPhone 3.0 it what you expected? Happy? Not so happy? In either case be sure to stop by in this thread and let us know what you think!

This next iPhone 3.0 related thread is started by my good forum friend Dizzy, he brings up a good question: After the announcement of iPhone 3.0 today do you think Apple will release 3rd gen iPhone in 2009? I’m with Dieter on this one and going with no, we will not see major hardware changes this year. We could be wrong, but I just don’t see anything major coming this summer in terms of hardware.

[Oh, it's on: I expect to see new hardware, iPhone 2,1, in June at WWDC! - Rene]

This last 3.0 thread has to do with release date. We all know it will be available this summer. But when exactly? Vote in this poll on when you feel the software will be ready to roll out to the public!

As always, be sure to register to get in on the forum 3.0 action!

See you on the forums!

Apps for Less: MobileFiles, Zombieville USA, Days of Thunder

This has been a good week so far for cheap apps on the App Store. Here are some of the highlights for the week.

If you are a MobileMe subscriber this first app is definitely one to check out, especially at the low price of FREE. MobileFiles [iTunes Link] is a very nifty app that allows you to access, view, and share files from your iPhone. The file viewing is pretty good, offering support for .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .tif, .tiff, .gif, .svg, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, .pdf, .htm, .html, .mht, .txt and .mp3. All files are viewed on the iPhone beautifully and even landscape mode has been included. You can also choose to download these files directly onto your iPhone itself for some easy offline accessibility. Keep in mind this is free only for a limited time so grab it while you can.

This next one happens to be one of my favorite games available for the iPhone, Zombieville USA [iTunes Link]. This one is still on sale for the low price of $.99 but this sale can end at any minute so be sure to get in on this deal. For a quick overview and a brief gameplay video on Zombieville USA, be sure to check out our Quick App from just a few days ago.

Lastly, we have one for all of the NASCAR fans out there. Days of Thunder [iTunes Link] is the first stock car racing game for the iPhone and it’s now on sale for a limited time for only $.99! Use your iPhone’s accelerometer to speed your way through six racing circuits, defeat your competition, and win the championship. This is a game any racing fan will appreciate!

Enjoy!
