MLB At Bat 2009 Now Available

A few weeks back we reported that MLB At Bat 2009 [iTunes Link] would be available on April 3rd, well it seems it was pushed out a few days early and can now be found in the App Store. Most of it’s features, however, will not be activated until April 6th. The biggest feature being, live Gameday Audio, from either the home or visiting team radio announcers, streamed directly to your iPhone. That feature alone should make this app worth the price of admission for all of you hardcore baseball fans.

So you have to be asking, how much will this cost me? For the entire baseball season including post season play this will run you $9.99. That really is not too bad considering in-game audio for the complete season, directly from the MLB website, costs $14.99.

So how many of you will be picking this one up? Let us know what you think!

Ghostbusters Coming to iPhone

Ok, don’t worry, the above image is actually from Activisions version of Ghostbusters for the Apple II that appeared in 1984 and not from this upcoming version. Most Ghostbuster fans out there are aware that the Ghostbusters are making their comeback this June on all of the major video game consoles with the original cast doing the voice acting. Well, most of you will be excited to know that your favorite ghostbusting trio will be making an appearance on the iPhone this June as well. Details are pretty much nil at the moment though hopefully Sony Pictures does it justice.

Sony says the Ghostbusters iPhone game will see you playing as the traditional team from the Ghostbusters movies, tackling New York borough by borough, trapping pesky poltergeists and stopping innocent citizens from being slimed. Think Halloween Harry, only with Ghostbusters’ Peter Venkman deadpanning it all the way through.

It should be interesting to see how the developers take advantage of the iPhones accelerometer in terms of control. So what do all of the fans think of this comeback? This is pretty big for those of us who here at TiPb grew up in the 1980’s, so we’re pretty excited to this game is coming.

AT&T Adds International Features Online for Your iPhone

We’ve all heard the horror stories about the iPhone and international traveling. Whether it was data related or voice related, iPhone users have been slapped upside the head with huge bills.

Well now AT&T customers can rest a bit easier — you can now access all of AT&T’s international features online when you log into your account. So if you plan on traveling internationally any time soon be sure to head on over to your plan features and make the appropriate changes. While this will not save you tons of money, at least it will save you a phone call to AT&T’s customer service. That’s a good thing, right?

iPhone OS 3.0: What it Means for Gamers

TiPb has been following the iPhone and gaming for quite some time now. Now that the iPhone OS 3.0 announcement has come and gone, we’ve learned that there are 1000 new API’s for developers in the SDK. This will not only help developers make better games but it also shows Apple is deadly serious about making the iPhone a true competitor to Nintendo and Sony within the handheld market. What a bright future there seems to be for iPhone gamers.

From the Forums: Landscape Keyboard, Favorite iPhone 3.0 Feature, Beejive IM Giveaway, iPhone Developer Forum

Now that the dust has settled and we now know what to expect “this summer” from iPhone 3.0, it’s only natural to include some more iPhone 3.0 madness in the forums.

Our first thread comes to us from Casper TFG, now that landscape in all apps has been announced will you actually use it? I have tried using the landscape keyboard with email and SMS and I’ve gotten so used to portrait mode that it will take some time, for me personally, to get used to landscape. It’s almost easier to simply use portrait at this point. Nonetheless, it’s a nice feature that many of you will enjoy.

Next up we have a thread that was started by yours truly and it is pretty straight forward, what is your favorite iPhone 3.0 feature? With over a 100 new features added, some more obvious than others, you can only choose one, so choose wisely. MMS? Cut/Copy/Paste perhaps? Let us know what you think!

This next thread was started by Rene and shockingly it is not 3.0 related! You all have a chance to win 1 of 2 free promo codes for a great piece of software, Beejive IM. If you want your chance to grab one, simply reply in the thread. Tomorrow, Monday March 23rd, we’ll pick two lucky winners randomly! Good luck!

Finally, I’d like to mention our iPhone Developer Forum. This is a great place for anyone developing for the iPhone or running iPhone 3.0 software. Come in and compare notes, share interesting features you may or may not have found, share the bugs you have come across, etc… This is not the place to ask for activation codes or for the actual firmware file so please don’t ask.

If you want to get in on the conversation be sure to register first. It’s a quick and painless process so what are you waiting for!?

See you on the forums!

Apple and AT&T Being Sued for Slow 3G Speeds (Again)

If Apple is not being sued over iPhones with cracking cases they are usually being sued for slower than advertised speeds. Lets not forget AT&T, they are involved with this latest lawsuit as well.

This suit has been filed in the good state of New Jersey by Damone Dickerson. Dickerson claims Apple misrepresented the speed, strength and overall performance of AT&T’s 3G network. The lawsuit also claims he could only connect to the 3G network periodically. Can we say “possible fringe area”? According to Macworld the charges against both companies include the following:

Negligence, Breach of Express Warranty, Breach of Implied Warranty of Merchantability, Unjust Enrichment, Negligent Misrepresentation, Violation of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act and Other Similar State Statutes, and Breach of Contract.

Dickerson is seeking to recover compensatory, statutory and punitive damages. What’s next? Will it come down to all of Apple’s TV commercials for the iPhone being yanked off of the airwaves?

AT&T Finally Unleashes the iPhone 3G With No-Commitment Pricing

Well we all you that this day would eventually come. BGR is reporting on March 26th AT&T will begin to offer the iPhone 3G with a no-commitment price as well as no in-store activation. Something to keep in mind, this all comes to us at a very steep price of $599 for the 8 GB and $699 for the 16 GB with a few strings attached.

AT&T will only sell you “one per line”. So with that in mind, don’t go into the store without a current AT&T phone line and expect to walk out with a shiny new iPhone 3G because that is not going to happen. These iPhones are only being sold to current customers that meet the following criteria:

AT&T is restricting the No-Commit price to existing customers who wish to add a line, purchase as a gift, or upgrade and not eligible for the Qualified or Early upgrade price.

So, at those steep prices and restrictions do you think these bad boys will sell well? It’s pretty safe to say this is not a move to make inventory room for those “new” iPhones that Rene is wanting in the worst way…

iPhone 3.0: Still a Reason to Jailbreak?

The iPhone 3.0 software release day this summer may be a sad one for the little iPhone Pirate. Will we still need jailbreaking? As Rene has already pointed out, yes you will be able to jailbreak iPhone 3.0 but just how many of you will be abandoning this process all together? We’ve given you our Top 5 Jailbreak Apps and 5 More Jailbreak Apps. Now Apple has seemed to satisfy most, if not all of your iPhone needs with the 3.0 software, it may be bit premature to cast jailbreaking into the darkness just yet. Some of the reasons being:

  • No themes

  • Categories and folders

  • Tethering, still no sign of this coming anytime soon from AT&T.

  • Lack of options for things such as ringers and tones.

  • On screen notifications

  • Video recording

Yes, we all know that things may change from now and the time 3.0 is released but the above list has a bleak outlook in terms of Apple tossing them into the mix anytime soon. How many of you will still be jailbreaking when iPhone 3.0 drops?

From the Forums: iPhone 3.0 Edition

Well now we all know what to expect with iPhone 3.0… Rene has even been so kind to lay out a complete feature list for all of you to enjoy.

Is iPhone 3.0 it what you expected? Happy? Not so happy? In either case be sure to stop by in this thread and let us know what you think!

This next iPhone 3.0 related thread is started by my good forum friend Dizzy, he brings up a good question: After the announcement of iPhone 3.0 today do you think Apple will release 3rd gen iPhone in 2009? I’m with Dieter on this one and going with no, we will not see major hardware changes this year. We could be wrong, but I just don’t see anything major coming this summer in terms of hardware.

[Oh, it's on: I expect to see new hardware, iPhone 2,1, in June at WWDC! - Rene]

This last 3.0 thread has to do with release date. We all know it will be available this summer. But when exactly? Vote in this poll on when you feel the software will be ready to roll out to the public!

As always, be sure to register to get in on the forum 3.0 action!

See you on the forums!
