So, many of us felt a a great disturbance in the force when the selection of characters included with the original Lightsaber Unleashed (formerly known as PhoneSaber) were tied to the simultaneously released Force Unleashed video game rather than to the original Star Wars movies we all (should!) know and love.
No Luke. No Yoda. No Obi-wan.
Well, Lightsaber Unleashed has just hit 2.1 and with it comes the ability to rectify this disturbance, provided you’re willing to do it yourself. Not only can you make your own Lightsabers, mixing handles and colors for the perfect shade, but you can take a photo or choose from a photo album picture to make your own entire character — complete with fields for names and bios!
Major improvement to an already geek-favorite app!

What? Why are you still reading this? Lightsaber Unleashed, the THQ’d official re-release of the PhoneSaber application, is now available from the App Store.
Got it? Good. What do you think? Better than the original? Or totally prequel’d?
Our take after a quicky first look? The UI is… er… underwhelming considering the LucasArts resources. The advertising for the Force Unleashed would be grating if we didn’t understand it was basically subsidizing this freebie (and curse the iPhone sandboxing for not letting it know we already bought the dang Force Unleashed, and disabling the adware!) Tying it to the Force Unleashed also, and unfortunately, limits us to that universe and its characters (one of which I would say demands a SPOILER WARNING, THQ!). No Luke, no Yoda, no Mace Windu (no purple!), no Obi-Wan, etc. On the plus, side, we get music!
Bad Ash Bonus from Jeremy: When you are in the app you will see stars in the background that shine every once in a while. Tap on them for a little voice action… (depending on the character you select).
Nice! And, again, it’s back and its still free.
(Thanks Cherryhead25 for the tip!)

We mentioned before that PhoneSaber, everyone’s favorite free iPhone dueling app, was pulled from the App Store over copyright issues (THQ, see, has sole mobile rights to all things Star Wars), but that it would soon be making it’s triumphant return. Now developer Mac Box is telling us how, and it seems the Force (Unleashed) will be with it, and best of all — it will still be FREE!
The new version, Lightsaber Unleashed, will have a strong link to the new multi-platform title Star Wars ®: The Force Unleashed™, which is out soon. Lightsaber Unleashed will feature exciting characters from this new game as well as vastly improved graphics, sound effects and optional dueling music (which was a popular request).
We’ve tried out the Force Unleashed demo on the PS3, and the crazy physics simulations therein pretty much blew our iPhone-loving minds. How will Lightsaber Unleashed fair? C’mon, they had us at “free”!
(Though the designers in us aren’t sure about the midiclorian levels of those icons… Hopefully they’ll be tweaked to something decidedly less nerf-herdery before release day!)
