Updated: iPhone Sirius XM Application Now Available But Wait… No Stern?!

Update: TiPb contacted Sirius XM regarding the omission of some of their most popular content within the application, they had no comment.

If you’ve been waiting for this application I’m sure you are well aware of the history leading up to it’s release. Well, TiPb is here to tell you that you can finally wave hello to the long awaited Sirius XM streaming application. [iTunes Link] The application is free to download and there are a few monthly payment options available to you:

Streaming to iPhone and iPod Touch is FREE with a paid Premium SIRIUS Internet Radio or Premium XM Radio Online subscription. You can also sample great SIRIUS & XM content with a FREE TRIAL. Visit siriusxm.com/oniphone for more details.

Now the bad news for all of the Stern fans out there, you can not listen to the Stern show on the go! If that is not a kick below the belt I don’t know what is…

Some select programming, including MLB® Play-by-Play, NFL Play-by-Play, SIRIUS NASCAR® Radio, and Howard Stern, will not be available on the iPhone and iPod touch. Listeners will continue to be able to access that programming through the platforms they are currently offered on.

I don’t know about you, but I’m keeping my $2.99 a month.

iPhone Sirius XM App Finally Gets Outed!

stern-only-on-sirius-satellite

It was only one day ago that TiPb asked, where is the official Sirius XM iPhone application? Well it seems like our question has, for the most part, been answered.

“The SIRIUS XM app will deliver an expanded programming lineup that includes SIRIUS XM’s exclusive sports talk, news, comedy, and 100% commercial free music channel, as well as new talk, comedy, and music showcase channels.”

Turns out the application will be free but — and that’s a big but — there will be subscription fees. You can either have a stand alone streaming subscription which is $13.00 a month or have a normal subscription with an additional $3.00 a month fee tacked onto what you are already paying. There is still no word on when the application will be released but our guess is you will see it around the time iPhone OS 3.0 drops this summer.

So there you have it folks… Excited? Disappointed? Let us know what you are thinking in the comments!

MedicalRadio and Whatever Happened to the Sirius XM App for iPhone?

sirius-xm

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything regarding the rumored official Sirius XM application for the iPhone. (If you are not familiar with the situation be sure to check out TiPb’s complete Sirius XM coverage!) Now a report from SeekingAlpha has pointed us to a App Store app called ReachMD. [iTunes Link]

What makes this application interesting is that it streams, with no subscription needed, Sirius XM’s channel 160 – MedicalRadio – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

So with that being said, TiPb poses this question to all of our readers: if ReachMD is providing their content to Sirius XM for satellite but separately licensing digital streaming rights via an App Store app, does this mean we will start to see other Sirius XM channels pop up in iTunes? Or are you still holding out for a full-fledged subscription based application? Some kind of major content deal between Sirius XM itself and iTunes?

Sirius to Stream Content to iPhones (Officially)

Well it is official, Sirius XM will be streaming it’s satellite radio content sometime this spring according to CNBC. This announcement has come very quickly after Nicemac announced they were closing shop and this is exactly what we predicted was going on from the first time StarPlayr was “not accepted” by Apple. Mel Karmazin, chief executive of New York-based Sirius said:

“It behooves us to consider every possible way to grow our subscriber base.”

Good idea Mel, unfortunately no other details have emerged as to price or an exact date they plan to roll this out. So all of you Howard fans out there can finally breath easily, you will soon be able to stream Sirius XM content right on your beloved iPhones.

Bobba Booey to ya’ll!

StarPlayr for iPhone Officially Waves Bye

Is this really a surprise to anyone who was following the whole Sirius StarPlayr for the iPhone debacle? No wonder Nicemac said their iPhone StarPlayr app was “not rejected” but rather “not approved”. It looks like they ran into some sirius issues with Sirius XM and not Apple. Which I might point out, is what many of our readers predicted.

NiceMac has decided it is in our best interests to discontinue the StarPlayr project. NiceMac will be issuing refunds for purchasers of StarPlayr for Windows Mobile on a first come first serve basis until corporate funds have been exhausted.

Could in their “best interests” mean Sirius XM told them to close shop or they will shut them down themselves?

So what do you think? Nicemac never seemed to have issues before with their software. Whether if it was for Windows Mobile or Macs. This iPhone app may have brought too much attention and Sirius XM said that’s enough.

Maybe we will see a official Sirius XM app in the App Store sooner rather than later. Hmm… we have a feeling it will be sooner.

UPDATED: Apple Waves Bye Bye to the uSirius StarPlayr App… for iPhone for Now?

UPDATED: Developer NiceMac provided an update in the comments:

The app was not rejected, however it could not be approved at this time.

It does no good to send hate mail to or bash Apple or any other involved parties. In fact, it could damage relationships required to get this product to market.

Instead, we encourage positive emails and messages of support to all those involved.

ORIGINAL: Lately I have been the bearer of bad news. First it was Apple rejecting the official South Park application and now they’re breaking our hearts once more and waving bye bye to Howard Stern and Sirius XM by rejecting the uSirius StarPlayr application that we previously told you was due to be in the App Store in a few short weeks. Yes this is a very sad day, as I am a huge Howard Stern fan like many of you.

“As of yesterday, the uSirius StarPlayr Application for iPhone still had a status of “In Review” with Apple. Late last night, we became aware that the application could not be approved at this time. As fans, we are committed to continuing to work with all parties involved as necessary in any capacity required to see this product to market. It is our goal, as it has always been, to release this application at as low of a price point as possible, if not free of charge.”

With no real reason given why this application was rejected, we must sadly move on. You really have to wonder what exactly made Apple reject this application. Surely it was not Sirius XM as Howard himself loved the idea and was ready to pick up an iPhone just for this application.

Apple, why did you reject this one? This was an application that I been patiently waiting for… oh so much. This news will surely disappoint Howard and many of the other Sirius XM iPhone owners out there.

Hopefully, we will see this application available on Cydia or the App Store sooner rather than later.

uSirius StarPlayr: Sirius XM Radio on Your iPhone

This past week has not been a good one for Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Reports of the company preparing for a bankruptcy filing have been all over the news. On the bright side of things, uSirius StarPlayr, which allows you to listen to all of your favorite satellite stations streamed directly onto your iPhone, is on the horizon.

It seems the only delay at the moment is the final approval from Apple. Looks like it may be 2-4 more weeks before we see this in the App Store. Some of the features of StarPlayr are:

  • Works with iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch
  • Edge, 3G, WiFi
  • Sirius or XM accounts
  • US and Cananda
  • Suggested Retail Price $12.99

So with a price tag of $12.99 how many of you are willing to pick this up to carry your favorite channels with you on the go?

Update: Yes, you indeed do need a monthly subscription to Sirius Xm.
