Saturday Fun Video: iPhone RC Plane and Copter Controller

myauntishot (via TUAW) shows an innovative guy using his iPhone to take his radio-controlled planes and helicopters to the sky.

Check out the link above for the scoop on why he did it and how…

iPhone to Become One Stop Video Production Shop?

Business Week (via Daring Fireball) is adding fuel to the rumors of Apple’s iPhone 3.0 may not only be shooting video come WWDC, but editing and sharing as well:

I’ve spoken with a source that is familiar with Apple’s plans for the next iPhone, which may well be announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in early June. Evidently, shooting video is as easy as it is with a Flip, the ingenious device made by Pure Digital (recently purchased by Cisco). Then there’s an iMovie app that lets you quickly save the sections you want, right there on the phone itself. There may also be support for MMS, so the clips can be shared wirelessly with friends. And because of the iPhone’s relatively large screen, your friends don’t have to schlep to your PC or their Facebook page to see that video of your kids or your safari. Just hand them your iPhone.

Questing — will this only be available on the next generation iPhone or will current (and older) iPhones be so blessed, lower-quality camera and processors not withstanding?

Thursday Fun Video Part Deux: iPod Theater Edition

So. Funny. Maybe the Audio Book industry was right to be worried, but for the wrong reason. With the iPhone rumored to be getting voice control in 3.0, how long will it be before we get to see our signature device turn up as Sam Jackson in Pulp Fiction… or doing it’s own into at Macworld 2007! The comedy potential is limitless, we tell you, limitless.

Once you’ve had your fill with Pod Vader, be sure to check out the Wrath of Kindle and iBlade Runner.

Thursday Fun Video: iPhone vs Netbook in Stress-Typing Test

Crave UK (via Gizmodo) decided to put two ultimately mobile devices, the iPhone 3G and the Asus Netbook, to the ultimate mobile stress-typing test, in a rally car going 80mph under 3Gs (not cell speed, forces of gravity!).

Yep, it’s virtual keyboard vs. cramped keyboard, typing on glass vs. typing on chiclets.

Any guesses as to which device reigned supreme?

Friday Fun Video: Palm Pre Fans Dreaming in 1960s Technicolor

Springtime, when videos turn their attention towards impending gadgets that are other than the iPhone. Samsung Instinct, BlackBerry Storm, Nokia… what was it again? This time it’s the Palm Pre, with interactions lifted from the iPhone and a faux-Scottish accent taken from Scrooge McDuck, and it’s dreaming of taking out the iPhone with a little 1960’s Adam West Batman ZAP! POW! action, chum.

Only problem? The iPhone is the 2000’s Christian Bale style goram Batman.

Best of luck with that little fight, then…

iPhone Hulu App: The Next SlingGate?

Rumor is that Hulu is working on a application that will be available in the App Store sometime in the near future. Silicon Alley Insider has learned about it from a “plugged-in industry executive” and it is said that the application itself will be as slick as Hulu’s website and it will work on 3G as well as WiFi. Judging from the popularity of Hulu and their really cool commercials, this app could be a huge hit.

This app coming to the App Store may seem a bit hard to believe at the moment based on the whole ordeal with SlingPlayer. Although, there are other apps within the App Store, such as i.TV, that actually stream video, granted the quality is poor. But full length TV shows and movies? Unfortunately, whatever is holding up SlingPlayer from becoming available still remains a mystery. Whatever the case may be, what are the chances of this Hulu app seeing the light of day? And what are the chances AT&T will really let it stream over 3G?

Apple Videos Highlight iPhone Developers in Advance of WWDC

Not sure when this went live, or how I missed seeing it the moment it did, but the snippet of video on Trism that Apple showed off in their iPhone 3.0 Sneak Peek Event is up in full on Apple’s developer site, and it’s brought along some friends. The full list includes:

  • Werner Jainek of Cultured Code (Things)
  • Dr. Ge Wang of Smule (Ocarina, Leaf Trombone)
  • Steve Demeter of Demiforce (Trism)
  • Christina Wick of AOL (AOL Radio, AIM)

The videos show not only some great insights into the personalities behind some of our favorite apps, but the development process as well.

Next Gen iPhone to Include Video Recording, Editing?

When iPhone 3.0 Beta 1 was released, we saw what looked to be an errant video upload screen. Next it was the apparent ability to receive video MMS. Now more deep diving into the 3.0 beta has turned up resource files that show not only may the next generation iPhone allow not only video recording, but perhaps video editing, including trimming as well. This might be similar to the already surfaced Voice Memo app’s ability to trim audio recordings on device.

Would make a nice addition to that rumored 3.5 or 5 megapixel camera, enhanced CPU and GPU, and fast cell and WiFi networking, wouldn’t it?

Thursday Fun Video: iPhone Remote Control… For Your Car!

Z. O. M. F. G. And Dieter just wanted to control little lego robots. Humph. This here GeekMyRide so much closer to Skynet and the Matrix and Cylons… and to think our little iPhone will be the elegant, buttery-interfaced controlled to our post-apocalyptic machine overloads. Sweet.

The car’s webserver provides a password-protected web interface optimised for full-screen display on an iPod Touch or iPhone running the SOPODS full screen web browser. The web interface has three screens: 1) Control, which provides a top-down view of the car with buttons for start, stop, lock, unlock, accessory power, and boot release; 2) Telemetry, which displays real-time data acquired from the engine management system such as RPM, vehicle speed, coolant temperature, throttle position, etc; and 3) Location, which uses a Google Maps mashup to display the current location of the vehicle on a map using current GPS data.

iPhone 3.0: Receive Video MMS

BGR, prompted by a forum post on MacRumors, has tested out some iPhone 3.0 functionality and…:

We’re happy to report that you can receive and play videos over MMS just fine

Sure to be a hit with the MMS lovers, though also likely to once again inflame the “no-video-recording-on-iPhone” frustraterati!

[Thanks to Gabriel for the tip!]
