Looked at our iTunes and what did we see? Genius enabled for Movies and TV. For those playing along at home, Apple first pre-announced this feature before making iTunes 8.1 available for download, then removed it just moments before the download went live, then said it wasn’t quite ready, and now has unleashed it on the world.
Sorta. Not all iTunes-purchased videos seem to generate Genius results yet, and some produce… non-intuitive recommendations to say the least. Those of you who have ripped your own, legally purchased DVDs to your collection under the principles of fair use might have a particularly hard time finding matches if you haven’t undertaken the arduous task of entering all the meta data, and even then…
So, feel free to share your Genius Video results in the comments, the funnier, the better. Eagle Eye returning Coyote Ugly for you to?
Remember that rejected — and highly physically impossible — video a few weeks back that CrackBerry.com was preening over? The one where a BlackBerry “bullet” tore through what was obviously a fake, tranquilized, like Waterloo fabricated Apple in a bizarre attempt to make the BlackBerry Storm less… Apple pwnd?
Well, now someone has found the real video, and likely the reason RIM never launched the fake one (Oliver Stone would have found it and humiliated them, ‘natch) and we bring it to you in full embedded glory above.
Zara from M0bileChic sent in this video, comparing the Apple iPhone against the BlackBerry Storm and Google Android G1. It’s fun, it’s fair, and we can’t let the CrackBerry.com commenters get the last word in so let her — and us — know what you think.
UPDATED: YouTube pulled the previous video due to a copyright claim by Apple. Engadget is currently providing an alternate video. Get it while it lasts…
ORIGINAL: Dieter and I were just talking about the iPhone prototype up on Ebay, went to check the current price (previously over $2000), and found that it had been yanked off of auction. We’re guessing this is in response to a take-down request from Apple, who might claim physical or at least intellectual property rights over the device.
The YouTube video is still up for now, so enjoy it (while it lasts?)
Scratch Microsoft’s Surface and what do you find? More Surface. Or, more accurately, make an x-ray app on the iPhone, place said iPhone on said big a$$ table (YouTube link), and you find some pretty amazing looking technology.
Now the iPhone uses electricity and capacitance for its multi-touch, and the surface uses — I believe — infrared video cameras, so the interaction is all the more impressive. How are they exchanging data and coordinating image display, rotation, scaling, etc? Is the edge-detection and outlining beging done on the Surface side and transmitted, or crunched on the iPhone side? And are there any practical uses for this, other than ZOMG! cuil vidz!? (Though that’s clearly enough for us!)
(Thanks to Phil from WMExperts for sending this our way!)
Not going to classify this as humor, given how much an unlocked iPhone goes for in Taiwan or Hong Kong (still no official carrier in China yet!). Poor guy, but hopefully a cautionary tail for subway iBowlers everywhere. (via Gizmodo)
The great folks at Smule were kind enough to show Ocarina the way it was meant to be played. Personally, I can barely manage anything more than an asthmatic wheeze and a dying note or too…
How are you doing with Ocarina? What can you play?
The fine folks at Sling were kind enough to give TiPb a demo of their soon-to-be submitted to the Apple iTunes App Store SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone client and it looked all shades of sweet. In addition to great H.264 quality and video overlays, they went all the way and implemented “swipe to change channels”. We. Want. This. Now.
Watch the video for the full on demo, and let us (and Sling, and Apple) know what you think.
